US Digital Releases for July & August 2026

My go to IMAX here in Florida, 6 story tall 70mm screen. Never had any issues, quality trumps any other theater, especially when movie is filmed in IMAX with the expanded IMAX aspect ratio.

Have had some of my all time best movie experiences seeing films there.

Her Private Hell (2026) in HDR/SDR/HD with DTS-HD Master 5.1 from NEON
Always happy to see more Nicolas Winding Refn on K. Very artistic director whose "boutique friendly" films risk being digitally inaccessible like David Lynch, David Cronenberg, Todd Solondz, etc. (Interesting to note that Apple has this title with HDR10+; HDR on K, SDR on Fandango?)
Motor City (2025) in SDR/HD with DTS-HD Master 5.1 from AMC Entertainment
I'd really love to learn one day why so few releases from AMC/RLJE have HDR/Dolby Vision. K has two titles that do so I wouldn't think it's a contractual limitation. I tend to just give a pass as "AMC titles don't have HDR" but I think customers should push on this. I believe Motor City has some buzz around it so if you're not happy that it's SDR only (unlike other digital stores) then I'd send an email to movies@kaleidescape.com and see if we can get some answers.

I have seen both of these movies. They are.... Different. Interesting. Artsy. Different! I do agree it is very cool that K is getting these titles as they are so out there. However, I need to watch Her Private Hell again on a setup where I can actually see. It is a very dark movie and it takes its time. Seeing it on a lower AMC theater, the image was pretty washed out and hard to see. However, at least my wife and I stayed for the whole movie. Everyone else at our showing walked out.

Motor City is actually kind of fun. Not that they say a whole lot. We saw this with a friend who grew annoyed at the lack of dialog in this movie. But for trying something different it does work. However, you have to have a pretty open mind for something different. I probably will end up picking this one up. There's some cool action scenes worth revisiting.

Oh no, is it bad that "this is different, most people walked out" sends a film flying up my watch list?

Same with "the big guy with guns barely speaks"?

lol it's hard for me to recommend either of these. Her Private Hell especially. Motor City is a little easier. If you want "different" and good, I would recommend Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. That has to be the most artsy "horror" movie I have seen. Just super meta with a lot going on. The best comp I can give it is Videodrome. Not in how they play out but the feeling or vibes from it.

We just saw Tony last night. It's already up for pre-order on K. For a biopic, it was a lot of fun. Directed by Matt Johnson from Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie with a pretty young, maybe, up and coming cast. Leo Woodall from Tuner, another underrated film from this year, steals about every scene he's in. This one had a lot more humor than I expected. It's pretty easy to recommend.

And now I am going to have that, "It's your birthday and we want you to have fun" song stuck in my head for the rest of the day. 😅

Returned
Rent (2005) in HDR/SDR with DTS-HD Master 5.1 from Sony Pictures

Sex, Lies and Videotape (1989) in HDR/SDR with DTS-HD Master 5.1 from Sony Pictures

Was sex lies and videotape returned earlier and now reappeared on K? I had bought this way back in 9/24 (4K/HDR).

Sex, Lies and Videotape in HDR/SDR was originally removed on 2026-06-03
Rent in HDR/SDR was originally removed on 2026-06-03 as well.

When will we get Troy 4k? I think the 4k disc was released last week.
We won’t. The disc is an Arrow (boutique label) release and it’s incredibly rare that those assets become available digitally. Buy the disc.

Speaking of movies like that. I see Hot Spot is available to pre-order on Kaleidescape. I went to see this last night. I will preface this by saying it isn't a "good" movie. However, I enjoyed it in a "I have questionable tastes in movies" kind of way. Reviews are pretty low for it. I can't find a budget but it does look to be pretty low. It is a Polish film with some grand ambitions. It takes place in the "near future" where society is ruled by AI. A detective is hired to investigate a murder. Here he discovers a group of rebels. One of them played by Noomi Rapace from Prometheus leaves an impression on him. However, back at home, his wife has an ability to disconnect from the AI and uses this to prevent their son from having to see punishments the AI forces everyone to see.

I don't want to say too much. I wouldn't recommend it to most people. @LoveCinema seems like the type of person that would be interested. I thought the first half was pretty fun. It starts to slow a bit in the second half and I didn't like how it ended. I gave it 3/5. However, my wife didn't like it. But then spoke more positively of it this morning and ended up giving it 2.5/5. So not as bad as I would have thought.

If this guy looks interesting to you, then you might like it.

I saw the trailer for this when I saw Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. It definitely looks interesting. Will probably pick this up when it goes on sale. 👍🏼

I'm on a Focus Features email list and get offers for free screenings. We're seeing this on Saturday.

Go in with an open mind and low expectations. There is some fun to be had with it. But again, not a mainstream type of movie.
