Which way to go with my K future?

What provider in Frisco TX provides that speed? I lived in Allen for 22 years and never had that offered. (in Georgia now though).

AT&T Fiber. Had 2gbps up until a week ago and just got upgraded. Didn’t really need it, but it was actually cheaper for 5gbps than 2gbps. Go figure.

That’s what happened to me as well with frontier. Currently on 2.5gig, but they are sending me daily upgrade offers for 7gig. Turning out to be cheaper than my current setup. I might upgrade just to get a kick, if nothing else along with some monthly savings. lol.

I feel like a caveman with the ISP 1gig...which ends up being at best 700Mbps with Kscape!
Nah, caveman is still using Comcast like most of the fools in my neighborhood use despite having access to 1 Gig Fiber. Yeah, you get 1.2 Gig on Comcast downstream, but upstream you get 40 Mbps which they of course bury in the fine print.

Ha...i really am a caveman... I am rural...with Spectrum....sill coax...so yeah "1 gig" down...40 up. LOL

I don’t know about AT&T, but a lot of providers have a lower rate for the first year on a new plan and bump up the rate after a year. They never mention this except in the very fine print though.

Is it still a requirement to have a K server to be able to display the screenwall? I too, after selling my K system last fall, am considering jumping back in. I think I would miss not having the screen wall.

Just an update on the direction I went. I decided on the 8TB SSD and it does make a tremendous difference in download time. Some player downloads that took 20-30 minutes (think Lawrence of Arabia) were done in less than 10 minutes with the SSD server. So, while not as ideal as just having all of your content locally, the on-demand approach with a fast internet connection and an SSD server is pretty snappy. I think it will work great for my use case. Thanks everyone who chimed in!

Very good decision...
I started downloading to my 8TB SSD all the Cinematic movies which were on the top of my list and then started deleting them as I watched them.
Now I have like 50 movies (these include 1080 P Trinnov trailers and Cinematic movies) and room for 18 Cinematics.
Now that I am settled back to my routine - the Terra SSD with 7 to 10 minutes Cinematic downloads (1 minute HD download) is all I need.

@todo I figure, if I could make the storage in the Strato K work for me alright, then 8x the storage should be a breeze. I just wanted the 2.5GbE connection so I didn't need to go do something else while I waited for the download. Patience is not my virtue :D

Storage for K cannot be used with a Terra as you know....
I would definitely invest in a 2.5 Gbe internet connection which can then be used also for the entire household.
I could download Lawrence in 12 minutes... patience is not my virtue either LOL

Sounds like a good move @Balthazar2k4 ! Do you have multiple Terras now?

If I were to add an 8TB SSD Terra to my existing 22TB HDD Terra, does K-scape intelligently prioritize the Terras to use the faster 2.5Gbe connection for downloading? I’m hoping so. Also, in that case I’d want to use the HDD Terra for long term local storage of favorites. Would it be easy to move movies from the SSD to the HDD?

Unfortunately, there's no "moving" movies with K (yet). You'd have to delete the film, turn off the default target Terra leaving only the one where you want the movie to go, then download it again.

PITA
Only option is get another Terra SSD or a Larger Terra SSD
Like I have said before - there is no end to storage.
I was at like 120 TB and so many K devices - now I only have one Strato K and and one Terra SSD 8TB - I buy movies when I am ready to watch so more rat packing movies (still have 2500 I bought over the years).
I dont want to waste a movie on the small screen...so I only watch movies in my HT.

Out of curiosity, I asked the AI in my browser about how long these SSDs will last. According to it,
"You would need to write over 1TB of data every single day to risk wearing out a QLC drive within a decade."

assuming Terras use a QLC drive.

Makes me feel a lot better about getting an SSD-based Terra.
