NEWS: Strato K Movie Player with 8K capability and new "4K Cinematic" full-chroma & higher bitrate support

I saw the Strato K as a clear step forward in capabilities and immediately contacted my dealer about ordering one. I kind of surprised myself at how quickly I pulled-the-trigger on the order, but I think K-scape has a real winner on their hands with this new Strato K!

I would sell it - no point having one in stand alone mode then you will have to micro manage what is where... if you have 2nd home that is another thing.
Actually it’s a great way to run players with two different capabilities.

I currently have a Strato M here for review. When it arrived it was connected to a default reviewer Kaleidescape account with some movies so I could test it.

Last week I started digging a little deeper. I added it to my K account but NOT to the system. This allows me to just quickly download a movie that we want to watch in the living room, or outside for a BBQ movie party, and it doesn’t have to have a network connection to play loaded content.

Meanwhile nothing changes in the theater where my Terra is loaded with my entire library for my Strato C.

Depending on your use case, I might suggest having the K locked into a theater with the Terra and making the V a standalone, but if that is going to require a larger Terra then it’s perfectly fine to run the K as a standalone and just download the next few movies you plan to watch in 4KCinematic.

Wonder if the 8K e-Shift on my JVC PJ is now worth using with a Strato K?

My understanding is that the JVC 8K e-Shift is an upscaler. However, it’s also my understanding that JVCs with 8K e-Shift are also capable of accepting and displaying native 8K. In that case, they should be great candidates for K-scape’s increasing 8K content.

I was curious with that as well and will likely base my next projector purchase on these findings. Do you have the 800 or 900?

I’m in the same situation! The Strato K and MadVR Envy Extreme Mk3 are nudging me to the JVC 800/900. I’d like to have 8K capability throughout the chain. Not sure at what level the JVC maintains 4:4:4 though.

Won’t matter either way.

Personally I do both at the same time - trigger the new format download and then while in the store page I delete the old one I had downloaded a s few seconds after starting the other download
Thank you, makes sense, I was deleting and redownloading

The best approach to setup a Strato K, Strato V, and Terra is going to be a hot topic! Lots of people, me included, will be moving V’s to another room when they get their K. I am pondering standalone vs system for the V and not sure which way to go.

I'm thinking of making the K a stand-alone player because there will be many more non-Cinematic titles than there will be Cinematic, keeping the Terra along with the E and V for those titles. Not sure at this point whether I should sell the V or E.

If you download the new 4K Cinematic format and wait to delete the old, 4K version after the Cinematic download is complete then any collections you've added that movie to will be preserved. If you delete the old version first, collection memberships will be lost.

Multiple ways to approach it. I’m thinking maybe V as standalone since that will be less frequently used and have smaller/quicker downloads than Cinema4K. I may also just put everything on one system and double-dip stored versions on the Terra until it becomes a problem.

Pleasantly surprised with FedEx Sunday delivery.
Any suggestions of what title(s) to start with to best compare with old versions?

Anyone have this combination of players?

Got my Strato K today. By adding that to my system, it seemed to have triggered kOS update for my Terra server and caused it to go offline for a few minutes. Just a quick note to make sure other people don't freak out about that. Be patient and wait a bit for the update to complete.
Yes. Strato K ships with kOS 26.1.0 so if you group it to an existing system, the components in that system will upgrade to 26.1.0 as you discovered.

The general rollout of 26.1.0 is scheduled to begin the week of 22 June.

*** Gets on soap box ***

I've been spending an unhealthy amount of time reading folks takes on this and man is it an interesting case of human behavior. Quite a bit of "willful ignorance" that there might be higher fidelity video beyond what comes on a disc. People totally glossing over the potential here because they just don't want to acknowledge it and what that might mean for their paradigm. Don't get me wrong...I have over 1800 4K discs that I've been collecting since the first releases. They are excellent. My issue is these individuals are twisting themselves in knots to not acknowledge that there's now (potentially) something better than disc. I get that it costs more money than they're willing to spend. Just say as much. But to attempt to downplay and ignore that for the first time in 10 years there is a new version of "best" for home viewing is insincere (at best).

While the perceptible differences in picture quality with "4K Cinematic" content remain to be seen, there is no question that when it comes to specifications discs are no longer cutting edge.

These guys are likely the same ones running a plex server or Zapitti/Zidoo full of pirated content from unknown sources. Remuxes and bastardized DV grades that have been handbraked within an inch of their lives. I've visited some local enthusiast's 7 figure homes with dedicated theaters where they spent massive wads of cash...HUGE projector screens fed by expensive video processor chains and fully kitted sound systems but everything was run off a media server. Unfortunately, it was VERY obvious that the source was compromised & overly compressed and when asked the host really had no idea where the content he was demoing came from nor what had been done to it previously. But guess what? The movie was free. 😬

Hey, I have a Zidoo 8K...but it's full of disc images I created from my disc that's still sitting on the shelf.

I'm also in awe at how much people are lashing their negative comments to the 8K availability while completely ignoring the refinement of 4K. It's like they read "8K" and completely quit reading. But they feel informed enough to take time out of their day to disparage the product release and encourage people to move along because "8K is dead...what a stupid product". 🥴

Whole lot of people arguing in bad faith in an attempt to convince themselves and others not to purchase a premium product with an admittedly premium price. I honestly saw somebody who wrote that we should let him know when the price was the same as his Blu-ray player. The Strato K not going to be $300 Bob...move along.

I've got no skin in the game (per say)...I may have got *incredibly* lucky with my announcement prediction but I don't know the crew at KScape. I just read the tea leaves and asked myself what I would do if I were in charge. I'm not in the circle. I'm not a dealer. I'm just a normal customer who likes his hobby and pools his limited resources to make things happen in this (premium) space. It's a choice. But it bugs me when fellow enthusiasts do their best to sabotage something because they obviously have taken personal offense with the price point.

Well anyway...thanks for reading. 😁 My Strato K will be here Tuesday and I'll put it through it's paces on my new Bravia 9 II. Should be fun. Giddy up! Will let you know what I see!

The Strato K represents a paradigm shift as people have to come to grips with “better than disk” content from K-scape (4K-Cinematic, 8K). Cracks in the “K-scape isn’t any better than disks” argument are going to be hard to ignore. Also, the “there isn’t any 8K content” objection to 8K is now crumbling. We aren’t going to see 8K disks, but I expect we’ll start seeing a lot of 8K studio sourced files on K-scape. Nice step forward K-scape!
