A mass market 4K UHD Blu-ray printing of 1976's King Kong has been announced by Paramount, previously available only via sold-out Steelbook. This follows Small Soldier 4K's mass market printing after multiple Steelbook pressings sold out. Sweeney Todd 4K got a dedicated mass market release after being included in a Paramount Scares boxset due to its popularity. Better Off Dead's HD Steelbook proved popular enough for Paramount to revisit the title with a 4K release. Paramount retains digital rights to boutique label releases, so there's a whole field of popular/rare/sold-out titles like Arrow Video's Barbarella 4K or A Simple Plan 4K that are available to digital stores. Kino Lorber's Snake Eyes 4K or Hatari 4K. Even the Zuckers' Top Secret has seen multiple disc releases including bundled with the Airplane movies.

Why bring all these up? These are titles that Paramount determined garner sufficient interest to publish on disc, titles that become popular on disc and either sell out or require multiple pressings/releases, titles that are also made available to digital stores due to Paramount's unique licensing, yet are not on the K Store.

Is K's market so vastly different from the collector's disc market? Isn't seeing the above enough for K to consider these titles???

Unfortunately I would suggest that it is especially judging by many of the comments on this forum and also the apathy of some members towards quality of the presentation. Convenience seems to be king for many folks.

I have said this a number of times before but it is clear to me that K is a platform for people who love watching movies not necessarily for those who love movies. Unfortunately, the fact some people don't understand what I mean by this statement just serves to enforce the point that this statement is true.

You act like the two are mutually exclusive though.

Convenience means you get to watch more movies rather than faffing around. I went to watch a movie on my Zidoo/NAS a few weeks ago and updated it in preparation for the 3D Avatar F&A disc because the TMDB certificate had run out on the version I was using. Ended up messing up my posterwall so I had to find the posters on my other Zidoo unit and transfer them over to the NAS and then re-add them all but the process meant I had no time to watch a movie once I’d worked out what had gone on and fixed the collections individually. So to say prioritising convenience is some kind of bad thing is madness to me.

I would actually argue most people who “love movies” don’t care about getting it in the highest possible consumer quality available, they are just happy watching the film at all, so I actually think you’ve got it backwards anyway 😜.

The thing is when you tally it up, there are over 100,000 movies on DVD even if they were only 1hr long there’s only 8760hrs in a year so if you did nothing but watch movies 24hrs a day it would take you 11.5 years to watch them all.

It’s all well and good striving for the absolute best but I’m going back and watching films (in higher quality) that I’ve realised I haven’t seen it 15-20 years and for me, when I do the math it doesn’t add up spending any time hunting down slightly better versions because let’s face it even HD/Blurays are still amazing quality. I don’t know about you but it’s not often that I watch something and think, oh this looks bad, more often I notice and issue with the audio distorting and crackling from a bad recording or my most hated a high pitched whine with one of the effects or voices which no one has picked up on in post, I Robot is the worst for it!

Anyway long story short we all have our own preferences and opinions and no one is the right one or better than the other so no need to frame it negatively.

Add another one to the list; Falling down (Michael Douglas) Arrow slated for 7/26. What a classic. Fwiw, this is not paramount but WB.
All of the titles in the original post are available to K and are readily available on all other digital stores. K has simply not chosen to add them to the K Store. A WB title licensed to Arrow is expected to be unavailable digitally.

... K has simply not chosen to add them to the K Store. ...
That's one framing of the situation. We don't really know why these titles aren't on the store; whether it's by K's choice or some other reason.

What could those other reasons be? I know when I worked for a company that licensed content from publishers, there were a large variety of reasons why we didn't/couldn't have any particular publisher's content in our system. Usually, revolving around money :(

Sweeney Todd 4K is now getting its third physical release from Paramount in the form of a 4K UHD Blu-ray Steelbook. First the “secret” title in the Paramount Scares box, then it’s own solo release due to popularity, now making another return to scare up more profits for Paramount. It’s unfortunate K sees insufficient value in upgrading this title on the K Store.

I've been waiting for K to upgrade this title since it was announced as the secret title in the box set. I wonder why they won't upgrade.

Seems like we managed the LOA HDR Cinematic release (finally!), I would love a Sweeney Todd Cinematic. if we’re going to do it, let’s go all out!

Just a quick note that MediaPlayNews has published the top selling discs from the week of 9/26 and Sweeney Todd's THIRD physical release on 4K UHD Blu-ray has appeared in the Top 20 Best-Selling Discs. Top 20. Third Release. Top 20. Third Release. Still in HD on K because they must "follow the data."

Another notable reappearance in the Top 20 is the A Nightmare On Elm Street 7-Film 4K collection. Basic selling for $100 and for the second year the $170 Steelbook collection has sold out nationwide. Again, the third year in a row that A Nightmare on Elm Street in 4K has shown up on the charts.

It's almost as if consumers with money to spend like these titles and buy them at this time of year.

@MarvinTheAndroid would you mind going into more detail to your comment here? I know this is an old post but I'd like to have a better understanding to your comment on "those who love movies vs. love watching movies". I'm paraphrasing but hopefully you understand the direction of my questions.

Actually I would rather not if I am honest. I don't believe your question is asked in good faith and is in a direction that I, and I suspect this forum, could well do without as recent history has shown. Frankly I wasn't going to say anything but since you have brought things up I find some of the 'directions' you go in such as suggesting people with opposing views to your own have a personality disorder as toxic as that which you accuse others of being. Of course I am not suggesting you are asking the question as some sort of "tiger blood winning" moment or that you are trying to stir the pot and create drama but I would rather not engage on this level all the same so I shall leave it at that. Feel free to ignore me or don't but as far as I am concerned this question shall remain unanswered. I will of course happily engage in other things in the future if I feel the subject is in better faith. I hope you understand the direction of my answer.

As some sort of olive branch I will say that I have been asked the exact same question before and gave an answer so it is somewhere in this forum for enquiring minds. I would humbly suggest however that anyone who asks the question probably won't understand the answer and that anyone who understands the answer probably doesn't need to ask the question.
