Understandable, but I also know that encoding is somewhat of a dark art, and it can often take multiple attempts to get a clean encode, and it can also often take multiple sets of eyes to quality control the various attempts. Add that to the fact that K has a smaller team and limited time with most assets for new releases before release day, and it's also very understandable that they sometimes need to send an update.Sigh...
While it's obviously a good thing for KScape to be improving things, it is quite frustrating to buy and then watch a very new release, and then find out I didn't have the best audio/video quality.
Catching up with older catalogue titles is fine, but I don't think it's unreasonable for us to expect new titles to be correct from the get-go. Maybe I'm just getting increasingly grumpy, but this does bother me.
I would almost guarantee that other digital providers are also updating their files, but since they're streaming and don't have to trigger a download, they don't bother announcing when they've updated something. Physical media has weeks or months of additional time to review and update encoded assets, and if they miss anything, you're more than likely stuck with it.
If I buy a new release and watch it without noticing any encoding errors, it really doesn't bother me to discover they found something. Because I didn't notice it. I have yet to notice any encoding errors while watching a newer title on Kaleidescape, even when they are updated the next day. To me that just says they have much more stringent standards than my eyes and ears are picking up.
