Movie Updates

Has anyone compared the K version of 2012 with the disc? I've noticed that my 4K disc is around 70Gb while the K version is huge comparatively at 98.5Gb. It only has two audio tracks so it can't be the audio that makes such a difference. The K version is only DTS HD master 5.1 while the disc is Atmos.

Likely the music videos, special features and deleted scenes included in the same file.

I have the 4k disc. I don’t have the K version. The disc is HDR10 only (no DoVi), K features DoVi. Fwiw, the atmos track on the disc is quite impressive.

Wow, I don't think there have ever been extras added for a Buena Vista film on K. This is absolutely amazing to see.

Pale Rider (HD) has added a Dolby Atmos track:

Hmm, I wonder what may be in store for us tonight at midnight??? Let's hope it's not alone, I was worried for K releases when Warner delayed all the Eastwood 4K's to hit on the same day.

Quick question from a newbie here…I had purchased the HD version of Dirty Harry…The Atmos update was available as a free movie update…It is now also available in 4k and I see there is an additional cost for this version? It seems I have received other updates with both audio and video enhancements at no cost? Is this normal when they make a 4k version available of something we already own? Thanks for your help!

Yes, 4K upgrades are paid upgrades from all studios. Once at 4K, there are no upgrade fees if there are later 4K changes like HDR/Dolby Vision. The cost of a 4K upgrade varies per studio, just like D2D pricing. Warner has one of the best discounted pricing structures.

Thank you for the update! What are your thoughts on a 4k upgrade of an older movie, like Dirty Harry for example? Do you think there is a noticeable benefit based on the source material when it was originally filmed? Just curious as I’ve never seen a side by side comparison…Thanks again for your assistance!

A lot of them see a great improvement. Others are mediocre at best, disappointing at times, and irritating at worst.

Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown - fantastic 4k updates
Kill Bill 1 & 2 - some improvement but also some annoyances (especially digital noise reduction smearing)

Because these upgrades will theoretically be available to you in perpetuity, it's best to do some research when they arrive, look around on the forums for what other folks are saying about them.

Good news is you can always re-download the HD version if it's something that James Cameron decided to ruin. Bad news is on occasion
the HD versions are updated based on the 4K remaster.
