Is IP control as reliable as IR or Serial?

Apple is kown to not to care about any automation integration other than their own. This is not limited to Control4. If you´re doing IP control with an ATV, it´s wise to have IR in parallel as a fallback as a TVOS update can break IP control any time.
I wouldn´t expect that with Kaleidescape. ;)
I agree, but do you think Control4 should maybe test major ATV updates? Maybe Apple doesn’t allow feedback and changes during development? I see that even Control4 recommends IR backup, but seems a bit extreme…. I might expect ATVs to be one of the most used sources.

ATV IP control was broken for over a year (if not even longer) for Control4 and Crestron (and i guess other control systems as well).
It was a major issue in the integrator scene. A lot of integrators don´t do IP control for ATV at all, only use IR.

I'm running 18.2 and no longer get the issues with a C4 remote not connecting (and no longer need to restart to fix). However, half of my programming with the Apple TV on C4 became non-functional in the last month. On the programming screen, using any of the buttons for device commands from a pick list don't work. Drag the icon of a button, fine. Pick from the pick list? Nothing. This means no TV/Home button use in programming. I don't know if this was due to the new driver or something else. And, since it's C4 and the holidays, I've got to wait until I can work with my A/V guy again (probably January). Ugh.

I have the Oppo 203. It has IR in back and front, and it seems like that's the only solution. No IR cable input, etc. What is everyone doing with this? I have. Blaster to the back IR sensor, but it's hit or miss.

Same. 18.2 fixed it. I even signed up for the beta so I could get the fix earlier. Have not done any additional programming for ATV source, so can’t comment on your issues. Pretty much use the stock layout and functionality.

It seems the same with Roku now too. They broke integration earlier this year with an update, luckily, unlike Apple, fixed it within a few weeks.

But now they are pushing a new update that turns off third party control by default. You have to turn it back on with the Roku remote before IP control will work again.

Just to be clear, they didn't "break" integration. The software update tightened security via third party when using IP control. Maybe even with their own app, I don't remember. Basically, if it wasn't a Roku handheld remote, it wasn't going to work without explicitly agreeing to the extra "exposure" you have when allowing IP control via 3rd party controllers. It took 2-minutes at most to walk a client through the process over the phone. I know this because I literally did just that dozens of times. The first call I got was like "WTF"?, because I actually had mine at the house set to Permissive already, but after I figured out what happened, it was a lark to fix all the others.

That reply was all about my second paragraph.

The broke comment was about the update before that did essentially shut off the API for C4, Crestron, and several other DIY controls.
