Movie Updates

A quick update for you Strato V owners:

The next tranche of the HD conversions to make older content compatible with Strato V is entering the final qualification and rollout phase starting today. The full rollout is expected to take 4 to 5 weeks to complete (approximately 35 titles per day).
@J.Green Do you think that every title will be converted or are there some where it just is not possible?

@J.Green , to clarify your statement for myself, you are saying approximately 35 titles per day, every day, starting today for the next 4 to 5 weeks will roll out?

Probably not weekends but yes. There are roughly 1100 titles in this batch of conversions that will work their way through the release process over the coming weeks.

Excellent and thank you for the quick response and clarification!

The aim is to convert all of our HD titles but it's possible that some titles may not be able to be converted for various reasons as detailed in earlier posts by @MikeKobb which you can find here and here.

Man that's awesome news and much appreciated for the update! I have 30 HD titles I paid for that I can't play (just under 10% of my library) and that number hasn't gone down in 3 weeks so I'll wipe the sweat off and chill LOL.

Passengers

Baby Driver

I'm not sure which thread to post this but I'm sure an Admin will move, if necessary.

I often look at the trailer for a movie before watching the movie itself. I was recently looking for the trailer of a title on my Strato V but couldn't find it anywhere on the device. Why isn't it included on the download, especially since Strato V owners don't have access to the store?

There are two types of trailers you can encounter for movies you have downloaded.

Some trailers are included in the Extras that accompany the downloads. Those are available on Strato V but not all content includes a downloadable trailer as an extra.

The other trailers are streaming trailers. These are much more common. However, with this current release, Strato V does not support playing streaming trailers. This is something that is being worked on for a future kOS release.

The HD download on Troy (2004) jumped from 32.2 GB (the blu is 32.1) to 56.9 GB:
Audio is now DTSHD 5.1 (the blu is LPCM). All the (extensive) special features are listed as SD so even at the 3 hr 16 min run time that's a healthy HD bitrate. Color me intrigued.

That size equates more to a 4K file but might be the long duration?

I picked up Troy (d2d..$3.14). Surprised to see Battle of Los Angeles available in 4k, so I ended up getting that as well.

Slightly bummed that Island (Michael Bay) is missing on K. Fortunately I have the disc.

Should be just the long duration. Video bitrate works out to just a hair more than what KScape usually uses for HD when they do their own encodes [/speculation].

I own Troy on K but don’t see any updates from mine.

This is a Strato V Compatibility update and only appears in that section of the website.

Be aware that if you are using a Strato C and you already have this title downloaded, you currently have all extras in HD. Accepting this update will replace the HD Extras with SD Extras.

I’m curious about the size change (I haven’t verified it myself yet), but the extras are extensive for this title so I’m holding off for now.

That makes sense! Now the question of the day is did they transcode the existing 11.8 Mbps VC-1 Blu file to AVC/HEVC or did they aquire a higher quality source file. I hope it's the latter but I understand if a better source is unavailable. The alternative is that Troy (and like titles) are flat-out unavailable in HD on the V which is a non-starter.

They've stated in their process notes that they're using original mezzanine files. This is the reasoning that some titles are not yet available, as they're having to request mezzanine files from the content owners.

They're releasing tranches of these unavailable V titles daily. They've said 25-35 a day. I've already had several become available in the last few weeks to include Death Proof and Battle Royale.
