CEDIA 2019

The full stack of Bond movies in 4k would be so freaking amazing, although Bond rights involve a little more than just MGM as I understand it.

Okay, just to calm people down a bit, you can expect to hear the following. (But wait for the official announcement from Kaleidescape.)

MGM Studios will be in the Store very soon...
Universal Music Group concerts will be added to the high fidelity concert collection.

More to come.......

Jim

Thanks Jim

That didn't take long! Just posted and already had a call asking "what does very soon mean?"
My answer: "My twins have a birthday party in late October, and I expect to be watching MGM movies during the party."

But again, wait for Kaleidescape's official announcement, which is coming soon.

Hope that helps!

Jim

Nice, thanks again for the breaking news.

Great news!

Thanks for sharing.

I am pretty sure MGM owns the digital rights on these which is what matters.

Also, the “007: The Daniel Craig Collection 4K” has just been announced for release on 22 October 2019 on disc.

Thanks Jim - here’s hoping one (or two) other dominoes might fall, or at least be discussed!

Appreciate the post...

That is great news Jim! MGM has one of the greatest catalogs in Hollywood, with movies dating back to the 1920's. I believe this was the last major studio to come on board, which is something MA has yet to accomplish. Here's hoping they come in in a big way like Parmount did, but regardless, just inking the contract is a big deal.

They are connected, but there is also the Broccoli family, and from what I know, they are involved in the process (process meaning anything that has to do with distribution, not specifically referring to getting the content into the Store). A lot of contracts were involved over the years, during and after the UA acquisition, and several entities have varying interests in the collection(s) (plural because of the separate film groups that were licensed). That said, I'm confident we will see that content in the Store at some point.

Yep, missed it. Danjaq, LLC is a copyright holder of the Bond films along with MGM. Once I dug this up I stopped looking - things are complicated.

Yes Sir, that's the parent company of EON Productions, formed by Cubby and Saltzman (named after their wives).......

Great news. Anyone at Cedia ask about MA and immersive codecs for Fox and nbc?

Asked about codecs. Was told the studio’s disc division is separate from the entertainment division (might not be the correct names). They operate independently, thus the codecs aren’t always available for both divisions concurrently.

MGM confirmed, inked last night.

Didn’t ask specifically about MA.

It was nice to put faces to names.

If anyone gets a chance, please do.

No need to ask, "it's being worked on" is all they can say, because that's the current status. There is no timeframe because in the end Kaleidescape doesn't control the timing, it's that simple.

We owners can do our part by continuing to build Store sales, it has been my experience that businesses are attracted to money.......

I understand that K wants MA and is trying, but they are a smaller operation and it’s on MA to onboard them. I will get a separate thread started soon. It’ll be on us to push awareness and requests about K to MA systematically and with as much volume as we can create.

I’ll post how we can do that to make it easier shortly.

Thanks for checking. Does it mean they will not get access to the codecs or it’s a matter of time?

A huge win getting MGM as that fills in the last major studio in their offering. I’m sure they have asked for better audio, but K doesn’t drive studio business priorities. Example, Fox. Disney may merge it into their own processes. SJ
