I just started watching Lanterns on HBOMax and I’m absolutely loving it. Based on the DC comic "Green Lantern," this show has a nice pace and keeps you engaged. 2 episodes in, I’m already hooked and craving for more.

The PQ and audio (atmos) is amazing. The audio especially is superb…streaming notwithstanding. The Atmos implementation is one of the best I’ve encountered so far this year; arguably better than some of the highly glamorous box office releases. I really hope this drops early on K, à la House of the dragon. Cherry on top, if this gets the C’matic treatment

It’s 4k cinematic, but it looks like it’s SDR for some reason. Is that right?
I checked Fandango and its SDR as well so this is a studio decision (like IT: Welcome to Derry) and not a K decision (like Gilded Age Season 3).

Yes, 4kc is much more stable. I recently updated my pj for dynamic iris, so I can compare again
Looking forward to your updated comparison. I love the show and have only seen the first episode streamed on hbo 4k, video quality was pretty good ( jvc nz900/madvr envy extreme 2). It may be worth the purchase price for the improved video quality that 4kc has over most streaming.

The video quality on the HBO feed is quite good. Plenty of detail, thanks in large part to its principal photography.
What I found on the 4kc pq are the expected minor upgrades: fine granular detail in the sky, sharper strands of hair, smoother panning. 4kc has this unique quality of stability and depth, and more dimensionality. That lends itself really well here.
But the biggest upgrade is the audio. I can hear way more ambient sound resolution. The soundscape is three dimensional and immersive. It's just generic and flat sounding on the stream. Doesn't do it justice at all.
I wouldn't have known how much effort was put into this mix. And it's well preserved here.
I'd argue that's where the real value is.

Thank you for the detailed report. Even though I am far more video oriented I have always appreciated the improved sound on discs over anything streamed and with the minor video improvements are enough for me to get the 4kc download. You should get a royalty for selling this to me :)

lol, my pleasure. I think you're in for a treat. I was where you were. Had only watched one episode, and I directed my attention to other content, mainly Lioness Season 3. I was happy to avoid spoilers and when the Lanterns finale aired, the season on K was available like a day or two later. I figured I was in for a real treat, being able to watch the series in the best format available right away. And NOT February 9, 2027, which is when the 4k disc is released. Ouch.
