Last movie watched

I purchased all the dts:X titles (4k + HD) on K. I love the format and own every title available on physical media (UHD and Blu-ray). There is a complete list of titles supporting DTS:X and atmos on Blu-ray.com.

You should check out Apollo 13 and Van Helsing. They are some of the standout examples of this format.
Neither of those are in DTSX on Kscape :( I’ll keep an eye out for them on disk unless something changes in Kscape. But this goes back to my question of buying a blu ray player just for the sake of having one (I do have a ps5 with disk if necessary )

I believe this is all the tiles with DTS:X on the K Store:

Thanks. I actually already own a bunch of them. What I’m hoping to do when I can free up some storage on my sV is to download Jurassic world in both Atmos and DTSX and compare the sound. The only other movie of interest that does this is “Kin” where the 4K version is atmos and the HD version is DTSX. Although, it might be hard to choose the HD version just for the audio if the 4K with Atmos version sounds as good but looks better.

I’ve been hoping Ex Machina would go on sale! One thing I haven’t decided on yet is whether the DTSX version of a movie is worth watching in HD vs 4K hdr and reg dts hd. I need to experiment but I have too many movies saved up that I need to get thru first.
Can’t believe I’ve bought almost 400 movies since getting my sV in June!!!

There are some great examples on Blu-ray/ HD as well. Some lesser known Asian titles have badass dts:X; take for example train to Busan. The newer 4k disc supports atmos, but the original Blu-ray Disc came with DtS:X.

For starters, The Harry Potter 4k collection (DTS:X) is a must, as it features some of the most innovative sound design. Arguably the best ambassadors of this format.

K has all the HP titles in DTS:X

We rewatched Waking Ned Devine - great movie if you haven't seen it. Quirky, funny, and touching. Worth a watch.

Thanks.. yeah when Kscape had the potter series on sale, I missed the window to buy the discounted bundle due to having spent soo much $$ on other movies that week already. I’m already up to almost 400 titles and I’ve only had my sV since June! I gotta stop buying movies or I’ll never save up to upgrade my system :(

What’s funny is I had almost never actually bought a movie in almost any format prior to having Kscape account!

Why do you find DTSX superior to Atmos?
Dolby has always been the “cheaper” option going back to the early days of DTS. It’s like dollar general it was available on every single piece of media. You had to hunt for DTS and it was usually on a special collectors edition.

It’s up to the person mixing the Dolby track to make it good or you can hit the easy button and just feed it and the mix is crap.

DTS has always had its own special releases (DVD) days. Sound has always been, subjectively, better. Better definition, cleaner, etc. it’s like they are paying for it so they put in extra effort.

If you want to see for yourself, go on K-store and find the 45 second Trinnov test clip. It has a massive bass hit 3/4 way though. It has both the Atmos Track and the DTS: X track. Play both. Change nothing.

*Spoiler* WAIT TO READ AFTER YOU WATCH.

Atmos seemed to be more noticeable in the 3D sound aspect but the DTS track seemed more delicate or cleaner and the bass hit is tighter but goes through good range whereas the Dolby bass hit is just muddy.

I watched it on Kscape. It was in hdr and had DTSX
I couldn’t find it. Link?

Apollo 13 doesn’t show a DTS track on K.

I did find this. Proudly says DTS:X.

DVD isn’t a good comparison because DTS was genuinely better as it had significantly higher bitrate. Dolby was 448-640kb but DTS was 768kb-1.5mb higher.

DTS was also more widely used in the Blu-ray days and had most of the market. It lost out in the 4K era because streaming took off and only Dolby had a solution for streamed object based audio and DTS completely dropped the ball. I know they’ve now got something which can be streamed but it’s too late, Dolby have already captured the market and lots of mainstream devices don’t even support lossless DTS. I know Disney are pushing IMAX Enhanced with DTS-X but that’s because they are cheapskates and looking to maximise profits.

Also pretty sure Dolby are or were more expensive which is why everyone went to DTS on Blu-rays.

Why do you find DTSX superior to Atmos?
I love all immersive technologies/ formats; be it Atmos, Dts:X, Auro-3D and dts:X/ IMAX enhanced.

Along with Dts:X, I also happen to own every single movie title with Auro-3D (sourced mostly from Europe) and IMAX enhanced (around 15 examples). There are some Native Auro-3D titles like Ice Road, Passengers, Warfare, Blade Runner 2049, The Beekeeper, Devotion and Red Tails which sound phenomenal and also gives me an opportunity to (natively) utilize my Top Surround (AKA Voice of God) and Center Height channels.

Dts:X has become a rarity or more of a novelty these days, as more studios are switching over to atmos, thus making it elusive. Not quite sure why DTS is not being involved more with its regular partners like Universal, as was the case in the past.

Therefore there is a natural human tendency to covet that which is going extinct. Lol.

I always forget that Halloween II is only in SD until I got to watch it this time of year and it makes me so sad.

Still was enjoyable but would love to see it upgraded at some point if at all possible.
Absolutely possible at any time K chooses to do so. Oddly they decided Halloween III: Season of the Witch warranted HD but unfortunately Halloween II is one of the most high-profile SD titles for the season. With Halloween getting a (decade long) 4K upgrade last year I had hoped we'd see this one added. Oh well, I guess there's always next year? Get those requests in to: movies@kaleidescape.com

Watched Fright Night to round up Halloween. Love this movie and criminally underrated imho.

Also glad that I was able to finish a marathon of Nightmare on elm street last week.

Kept the first movie of the night in New Jersey!

What's next?!

I really should’ve been like you guys and stuck with the classics.

That’s an hour and a half of my life I’m never getting back. 🫠

Was it really that bad?? The atmos viewer shows it should have some decent immersive audio. But I watched the trailer and something just felt.. bland/bad.. was the audio and video at least good?

Currently watching Halloween 2018, purchased the bundle in anticipation of tonight. Wasn’t horrible imo. And the DTSX audio was awesome!! There is a scene at 54/55 mins where the couple are on the couch and all of a sudden a low thump hits.. but what was crazy it literally felt/sounded like it back from the back left of my room! I do have a sub close to there but I’ve never heard directional bass like that before! Very cool! Also near the beginning where “the song” plays sounded killer! (No pun intended) haha
Going to watch Halloween Kills extended cut next.
Ps. No offense to the older horror flicks but I was never a fan of those (we weren’t allowed to watch those kinds of movies growing up) so I just never got into them. With the exception of all of the IT movies.
Anyway, that DTSX audio just sounds soo good! Wish more movies had it.
