[LoveCinema]

Thanks for the explanation. Being new to the Kaleidescape world, I didn't know the history (nor the difference in players) and mistakenly assumed that, given how crazy expensive the hardware is, the introduction of the new K player (and Cinematic) format was the new top tier and most titles would be upgraded.

Happy to continue this in another thread if desired. An idealistic "every 4K title should be 4K Cinematic" simply isn't realistic given K's resources. Undoubtedly they'll do fewer than we want, but they're already at about 500. While this number may be small to some of us with large Terras, I'd imagine K has data to show that newer player owners fall below this count on average.

Also, anyone arguing for "every title" should really do this exercise:
1. Go to Movie Store, Filter to 4K, Sort by Popularity.
2. Go to end of list and work your way back.
3. Now, for each title on each page, decide this: "Should this title get a 4KC upgrade or should K get a new (long-requested) 4K title?"

Let’s not forget budget constraints and personnel constraints when asking does this get the 4KC treatment.

There are a large number of HD titles that Shoukd get updated to 4K and they are not. The Color of Money gets my vote.

I’d say if something is “popular” enough for 4K, then it should be 4KC. Of course, resource constraints mean it isn’t like flipping a switch to convert all 4K’s, and an orderly, steady stream of 4KC catalog conversions is realistic. New 4K releases should be accompanied by 4KC at the outset. Those two approaches converge over time and you end up with complete 4KC coverage.

K-scape should always strive to deliver the best available content for digital-rights home viewing. Your post seems to be making excuses for not achieving that goal.

It’s a false choice to say it’s either/or when it comes to getting HD to 4K upgrades or 4KC upgrades. We can have both things happening.

I agree with the principles but they stand in stark contrast to reality. K has a set bandwidth. Period. An "orderly, steady stream of 4KC catalog conversions" takes up a (new) percentage of that bandwidth. As a result, there is less bandwidth for other upgrades and new titles. It's that simple. As K gains more customers they can increase their bandwidth, but this is a cycle that started a decade ago and we're not there yet.

I agree. I am not making an excuse, I am calling out the expected behavior and identifying the reason. This belongs in a different thread.

There are a lot of really great movies that are still only available in HD. I would like to see more of them get upgraded to 4K/C where possible.

I won’t belabor the point, but resources are always limited. They aren’t always fixed though. If K-scape introduced something like the Strato K and 4KC with static resources, that seems unwise. Here’s hoping for continued progress with 4KC.

Is K likely to get the new version of Transformers: The Movie?

Shout! released digital versions of the 30th Anniversary and 35th Anniversary releases, and they do far more digital releases now than they used to, so chance are good that a new digital version will be released. Whether K chooses to get it or not in another question but I believe the Transformers movies are fairly popular on the store. If you want to help increase odds, get a request in to: movies@kaleidescape.com

Is K likely to get the new version of Transformers: The Movie?

I wanted to add a brief note here: For no visible reason, the prior/current version of Transfomers: The Movie has reappeared in the New Releases section of the store. We know that if a new version of a title is released as a separate listing, it drags prior versions alongside it in the Store. We also know that studios/distributors provide digital assets to stores well in advance of release to allow time for encoding, QA, etc.

Did K build a new (hidden until release) listing for a new version of Transformers: The Movie but accidentally attach it to the prior version already?

Misdemeanor for having S1 only in HD; felony for having the others only in SD.

I sure hope so!! I have the preorder disk version added on my Amazon wishlist but would much rather have the full Atmos version on Kscape if possible.
Also, I sent a request email to Kscape as mentioned above.

How was that movie? I did not see it. Debating if it's worth a blind buy or if I should wait to stream/rent it first.

Saw this one in an IMAX theater and enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. I held off on buying it until it went on sale (Warner titles are usually $40 as new release). IMHO, for $15 it’s a no brainer.
