Hardware sales?

Hi, Just on the verge of triggering some upgrades/storage purchases and I was so focussed upon the 'what' that I didn't think about the potential sales that might be imminent? Its a trade K for a C and likely 2 compact Prime terras (12 and 22TB) for an HD Terra Prime 72Tb. Looking to reduce the impact of disk fail etc. and taking advantage of the new player. Is there a better time to do this? i.e. do they have Black Friday deals typically?

Not expecting leaked secret commercial info but more hoping for insights to when these deals turn up and best way to do these things. Its a purchase for the UK system and I have a dealer that manages/maintains all cinema stuff for me in the UK but thought someone on here might know what typically they have done. I would feel daft if I trigger it today and in a couple of weeks some annual sale I haven't noticed kicked off :)

I was going for a trade in simply to remove the hassle of selling as we have a house (museum) full of stuff that I never get round to selling already :(

Any nudges appreciated

You can likely sell it easily on here and help the members out. For other AV forms where I’m a member, I usually offer up the members the trade in price. This way I come out whole and members can get a deal.

Good idea. But knowing when if sales are coming probably just as/more important.

So keen to know.

While I have zero “inside knowledge” :

1. Chatter on the forum still points to a 4-6 week wait for new Strato K orders.

2. Storage and other component prices don’t seem to be going anywhere but up for the foreseeable future.

I highly doubt we’ll see any Kaleidescape Black Friday / Holiday hardware sales. That’s not to say that your dealer might not be able to help you move the old gear and possibly save some money on the new. YMMV.

Thanks, my local dealer has a policy 'of not getting into the selling old gear game' and although I could go elsewhere I probably wouldn't because of the long relationship and they maintain everything including home automation. So it's either sell it myself which as I say I just don't do, so won't kid myself. Keep it, donate it to family (more likely but timing not great for them) or just do the swap. I will think on JD's suggestion above but again it would require us to deal with stuff I prefer not to do although I do think its a good idea for buyers although sellers might not be quite so keen ;) .

I will continue through the process and see where things end up.

I did suspect my failure to have spotted previous sales and the new product would lead to minimal/no opportunity but it was worth checking.

Cheers

I don’t think they have ever done sales in the UK, at least not in the last 10 or so years I’ve been wanting to get one! The best you’ll get is movie credit with a bundle but otherwise the prices are going up at the moment and A.I is going to keep things that way for a long time.

I picked up the Mini Terra Prime SSD for £6K as soon as I saw it had increased to £10K at a number of places before it was too late. The prices before were high but the increase is crazy compared to HDD models but on the smaller units where the drives can’t be replaced the SSD will surely last longer than the compact HDD models.

Just have to wait it out until the A.I server business implodes on itself because nobody has actually made any money outside of the hardware manufactures and construction workers laughing all the way to the bank. Or they don’t and this is the new normal.

Are there any SSD servers that can be fixed if a disk fails? I didn't think they could be fixed?

I believe the materials around the 246TB SSD Terra stated that the drives were field replaceable, but I'd double-check before you spend a quarter-mil.

Thanks.

OK I daren't look at the cost of that today, so I will sleep before I do to avoid bad dreams :)

Nope only the 246TB ones can be replaced but SSD’s have no moving parts and enterprise drives at least should have much higher lifetime TBW before failure. My thinking is it’s going to fail at some point so best to get the one that should last longer before stepping up to the much more costly 48TB or 120TB full size models which are replaceable.

My Terra Prime SSD 31TB allows any and all 4 SSDs to be field replaced.
Yes, sorry I should have been more specific in saying the ones still available. The previous full size chassis 123TB and 31TB are/were also replaceable.

Anything in a compact or mini form factor is not except the 246TB model.
