Which Strato for my Theater ?

One more vote for laser. I agree with all the benefits already cited. I’ll add that it is quieter than the equivalent bulb projector. Mine’s in the room, so every decibel counts. My laser is 4dB quieter than my previous lamp. That doesn’t seem like much, but in my theater that difference crosses the boundary from being heard all the time to being heard only where there’s a completely quiet scene.

What was your question about aspect ratios?

How bout we do this, all you “laser boys” pool ur money together and just buy it for me, now that will show who really cares more😂😂😂😂

I did a search and it clearly stated all the known aspect ratios, even the worse one of all, the changing one, but knowing this place one of you’z will defend it til the end😂😂😂

I gotta tell ya, im cracking myself up tonight. All in fun, but no one reads the ***budget*** section 🙄

I can’t speak for the rest of the Laser Boys, but for my part I am actually offering the suggestion from a budget perspective. In that I’m trying to save you from having to double dip on your equipment once you realize you bought the wrong thing.

Laser represents a new plateau in quality of life improvements. I’m not saying get the most expensive laser around, I’m saying get a mid-range JVC. I think the Strato K represents the start of a new benchmark in A/V fidelity, and therefore the next big leap to set you on the new plateau.

New plateaus are generally reliable from a future-proofing standpoint, so my advice is to plan your spend over a year with newly plateau’ed products. .

Also I still don’t think I understand what you’re asking for regarding aspect ratios.

I have never heard a group of people beat a dead horse like this, i always forget the absolute positives of forums, and the absolute negatives, no one listens Lol. No one😂

JVC NP5/K-E done ✅

And above all, thank you for the information, it sincerely was helpful even though the horse has been dead for days😂

@Edgar
The aspect ratio question was answered already on the K site, it listed 5 or 6 static adpect ratio’s and of course the changing aspect ratio which imax uses which i hate, but the jvc has 10 presets, so im good Thanks for checking back on that

All good points Edgar but again, this guy is a budget/bargain hunter. I agree with everything you said because I did what this guy did. I bought a bulb 4K projector for a really good price, hung it, liked it, bought a JVC 4K Laser and love it.

But you also have to consider the source. This person is not going to be able to drop $10,000 to $12,000 on a player and projector. I've already recommended some things to him and he is pretty set on his path.

There are still some very good bulb projectors out there.........

🙏 Thank you Jon, i lived with 1080p/shottyHDR a spandex screen and garbage streaming movies Roku to:

NOW….4K/HDR Tone mapping, 10 lens memories, a real AT weave screen and most of all the K/E deliving Lossless so my 7.1.4 can really shine, and all that meeting my budget, my recording studio, vacations, peace of mind. WIN WIN WIN 💥

Can someone explain lumen loss and how long should the laser projector last with a good bright picture?
With the progress that projectors make, I find I am upgrading way before they wear out. I’m not looking for decades because the technology improves so much after just a few years. I use it for about 6 hours a day, give or take. Not as much as LoveCinema.
Previous bulb projectors were very good for 1.5 to 2 years before I would replace the bulb. I expect the laser will do much better.

Everyone's results will vary I believe. Depending on laser power etc. If you run 100% power then I'm sure there is some measurable loss. The 20K hour quote is probably the overall life span before failure of the laser. Who knows what it will cost to replace the laser. I've seen some folks speculate as to how to replace and how much it will cost. My understanding is if you send it to JVC or a JVC authorized repair facility will cost close to the original cost of the laser to replace it. That's why a bulb does still have advantages. As long as the optical engine is still good, a new bulb restores the projector to its original brightness. That's why I would look at a discounted NX7,8 or 9.

The best you can do is get a light meter and measure your own brightness on an annual basis and track that way. Other than that, I think you can only assume a linear degradation. 20K hours at average use drops to 50%, so 6hr/day is roughly 2K/year so you've got 10 years before you hit 50%, 5 years before you're at 75%? Just assumptions on my part, but doing the same exercise is what has driven me towards updates.

20K is the laser at 50% not failure. So, not too bad but something to be aware of. I went looking for details on the basis for the 20K and couldn't find anything (Full laser? Low laser?). Given manufacturers favor "best case" figures, I'd suggest that 20K is at best average laser use.

I asked when I bought my JVC projector and was told the laser replacement was ~$3K for an NZ9/NZ900 years back. Obviously with what's happening with electronics it may be more now.

This is for Christie projectors, but there´s some interesting information in it that should be true for all laser projectors:
Laser output settings is an important factor and also operating temperature:
How can I use a laser projector for a longer life?

Did you end up getting something?

No, i have a 3way active studio monitor build thats mid way done using a MiniDSP Flex HTx. Then im gonna start a slow climb understanding REW🙄

Heres the amp rack

Best guess after the first of the year unless a deal of a lifetime arises

You know, it appears that you’re not listening to me either. My suggestion is to buy a current technology projector now with your K budget. Next year when your budget replenishes, then get a Strato K. So, over the 12 month period you end up with current tech for both PJ and player. If you buy older tech now, you are stuck with old tech, and if history is any gauge, you will want to trade them out for current tech. Overall my suggestion to phase in your purchases saves you money since you buy each device just once, not twice, and the current gen tech provides lasting enjoyment over the span of the current product cycles.

Put another way, I am providing a framework for you to join the Laser Boys on a $5K budget, if not outright buying one for you. Otherwise you’ll be stuck as a Bulbasaur for another 5 years.

THIS ISNT THAT IMPORTANT 😂😂😂

My upgrades dont chase new technology, my upgrade follow hobby needs, which in turn, follow budgetary boundries. My last projector lasted me 9yrs without a single necessary replacement of a bulb. For the NP5, my guess is i will get a brand new bulb (worked into the budget), and set aside the old one.
I have been alive too long to chase, i sit back and wait, theres always, absolutely always a deal, theres alway tech chasers casting aside perfectly good equipment chasing the next improvement.
I only knock that philosophy when its shoved down my throat like so many other points of view. I dont even know why im writing this, you wont, and cant understand. Some day you will be alot older and wiser and think back to a day when you chased and chased.
Now hurry up and get bored with your current technology, and sell it to a buyer like me who is patient just waiting for a great deal….

Im sorry this has come to this, but truth be told, he’s out there waiting, and you will give him the deal of a lifetime, as so many chasers do, but we need deal searchers, and sellers, it’s symbiotic 1792973293995.png

No, not what I asked. Did you end up getting a NP5 or are you still hunting or did you get a Strato?

This was a research venture, my guess i’ll just check classifieds occasionally. My last purchase (my jvc rs400) was 9yrs ago, so i was seeing costs/features of a new to me pj, which got started because of garbage roku based movies and K movies and players. Im in no real hurry, just waiting for a deal.

So projector first? Then Player?

I believe so… get it set up, get use to it, then the K/E. There are going to be so many improvements over the old JVC/Roku, the list goes on and on, im so looking forward to movie night , which is often. Im incharge of operating the theater Lol, and my wife is the media guru, i alwsys have old standbys but she researches!!!

Now that i think about it, it’ll be looking into screen material also and i’ll pick up an xtra bulb. Im sure my 18gb hdmi shoukd be fine, again time’ll tell.

Im wondering if theres a market for the 1080p JVC, and the vertex2 ???
