Movie Updates

Scary Movie and By Any Means got the Cinematic treatment

The Cable Guy gets updated to 4K HDR/SDR with Atmos.

Was eagerly awaiting Cable Guy. Pretty disappointed it is not in Dolby Vision like the disc though.
We all dream of the day when K only adds titles to the K Store in the highest quality and most complete state available. Alas, today is not that day.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011) in HDR from Paramount updated to include Dolby TrueHD Atmos from DTS-HD Master 7.1

Dagnabbit! I will probably end up double dipping on this. I have the steelbook being delivered today. I should have waited for K to get the upgrade but I wasn't sure that was going to happen.

I did the same thing, my copy arrived today, I wasn’t sure if it was getting upgraded. I noticed that the disc version included a Dolby Vision. I will try to give it a quick sccan and post my thoughts 👍

I’m holding out hope that Ragnorok has a better soundtrack than the travesty Disney put on disc. The standard DD sound track was better than the lossless. I may have to give it a spin again.
I’m curious if you’ve seen the Thor movies on the “Atmos Viewer” on Avs? It looks like Ragnarok doesn’t even send anything to the wides or middle heights. Only shows front and rear height channels active. The first Thor movie and love and thunder show much more channel activations!

Thor (2011) standard HDR and HD updated WARNING! Extras in HD looks gone

Standard HDR
  • Audio and video improvements
HD
  • A Dolby Atmos audio track was added
  • Additional audio tracks (English PCM and DD 5.1)
  • Added subtitle track: English
  • Video quality improvements
  • WARNING! Extras in HD looks gone

Thor: The Dark World (2013) standard HDR updated
  • Audio and video improvements

If they're not doing all the Thor movies it will be really surprising given Ragnarok is the most popular.
Opening scene with Immigrant Song by the band that needs no introduction was such a mood killer. Lets turn it down and flatten it, at every opportunity so as to kill the mood. Pay all that money for 1 song and then to f'n ruin it.

Wait what? I don’t understand? They updated Thor to include other audio tracks and some video improvements but took away the Extras? Why would Kscape do that?
Also, why in the world are they adding inferior audio tracks when there are other movies that could be upgraded to Atmos/DTSX etc ? Sorry for the confusion, just doesn’t make any sense to me.

Two potential reasons...
1) A new digital re-issue from the studio. This usually affects extras like Commentary tracks. Edward Scissorhands and LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring both got re-issues that added Atmos but stripped commentary tracks. Didn't have it downloaded? You lose the commentaries. Had it downloaded but just took an upgrade? Commentaries gone forever. An unfortunate aspect of the digital world.
2) K is doing HD Compatibility updates for newer players and during this process they've focused on movies themselves and left the Extras to come later. Although we're about 2.5 years into this process there's hundreds of titles still affected.

For the record, the Extras on Thor were a trailer and a very short puff piece (think elongated trailer). But, yes, I have them downloaded and No I won't be updating the HD version until they're returned.

I'm talking about the physical 4K disc and I guess my thoughts didn't make it to the keyboard. Disney routinely neuters the main audio track on a disc. I have multiple copies of other movies that are Disney and the audio mix is terrible. Not sure how you inferred I was talking about extras or anything to do with K-scape.
