Insta-buy. The Shout disc doesn’t have Atmos! Also, just saw Bruce an hour ago in Dallas.

That’s a good call. I was about to mention the same.

I’m quite critical of K, whenever there is a title which gets released without an immersive mix, or for not having parity (on the audio front) with their physical media counterparts. But on this particular occasion they definitely deserve their flowers.

A pleasant surprise, especially for a title which has such a massive cult following.

I'm seeing some cinematic titles that don't offer HDR, e.g. Gladiator:

I think Raiders of the Lost Ark is in the same boat.

What would be the reason for this?

The Conjuring: Last Rites just got the Cinematic upgrade as well.

Not sure why but I have noticed that myself. For the Indy movies, even though they have Cinematic Dolby Vision, they don’t have standard Dolby Vision. I’d say 98% of movies that get Cinematic DV also get standard DV as well, if they didn’t already have it. I was told in the case of the Indy movies they should get it eventually.

When the file from studio is 4:2:2 there is no benefit of making a HDR file. The player will convert the Cinematic DV to Cinematic HDR with 4:2:2 on the fly when you play it. So there is no point in having a two "identical" files.

Just ran into a case where I wish I had the PCM stereo track (not K related, though).

The surround mixes on the DVD for Virtuosity is flawed where if multiple characters are in a scene, only the dialogue of one is clearly audible. The other character's dialog is only as loud as a whisper. And there's no subtitle track so I cannot use that to "hear" the quieter character.

It's not dialnorm because the one character is easily audible. It's not a center channel issue because both character's dialog is coming from the center.

I would, maybe, be able to work around the problem by using the stereo track.

K has this in HD with subtitles. I don't know that I want to own it yet. Anyone played this using K's version? How does it sound?
I have it downloaded. Any particular scene I can check?

Thanks!

The worst offending scene/most obvious: The psychiatrist (Lynch) is interviewing the prisoner (Denzel) in an interrogation room. Early on he says, "Do you mind if I take notes?" and she passes him a pencil and a notepad, whereupon he rips a sheet off the pad. The prisoner's dialogue is almost completely inaudible despite the both of them sitting at the same table.

It's maybe 15 minutes in? After the whole sushi restaurant gone awry.

The AI says this is a mixing problem common to 1990s DVDs.

Actually, I ended up watching the whole movie and finished it like 5 minutes ago.

Kids are sleeping so I watched it at kind of low volume and the dialogue was good throw-out the movie. In the scene you are referring to the dialog is good but Denzel is kind of half-wispering so his voice is clear but lower than hers. I would say that it's nothing wrong with the mix on this one.
