Coyote vs Acme

All good, but just so we’re clear based upon bitrate I think the Lossy Atmos is less than 10% of something, :)
I was in the same curiosity boat and polled the forum once. I was universally assured that a 5.1 track alone or with any upmixer is so vastly superior that no one would ever listen to the Lossy Atmos track. Having said that, I’m not against including it but I can understand the branding challenges for K including streaming audio.

It’s an unfortunate aspect of the physical/digital divide that we all hope goes away,

Thanks for the reply!! Glad to know I’m not alone and I’m sure they are well aware. However, for me personally, my system really sounds awesome when it doesn’t have to up mix anything. (I know, that’s a “me problem”) and still sounds good on normal DTS HD. I think it falls into the fomo issue of spending $$ on something when there is a nearly identical product but with more features.

Mainly I’m just bummed because I really wanted to buy coyote vs acme on Kscape (same with In the Grey) but will probably just have to go with iTunes or disk. Anyway, I still love my StratoV and stay hopeful only good things will come in the future.

(new K customer here): I am I understanding correctly that many titles in the K movie store doesn't have Atmos when the disc version does?

Some. All information for what audio is available on the store. As was previously mentioned, if a streaming service offers Atmos, it will be lossy.

And just because it has Atmos does not mean it’s a good mix. I’ve found some really crappy Atmos mixes, but that is not K’s responsibility.

Dolby historically has a ton of bad mixes compared to DTS in my opinion. Dolby is like the Walmart of sound. You might find some good stuff, you may not.

I'm aware of the differences in formats and how quality isn't assured.

I'm just wondering why UHD discs (which is where I'm coming from, not streaming) would have better sound than the K versions (aren't both formats originating from the same mezzanine file)?

K-scape prioritizes the best lossless audio available. This is provided in the mezzanine file from the studio.

Most of the time, these are the explanations when Atmos/DTS:X isn't available on K:
- The studio sees the immersive track as a physical media exclusive (this might apply to the recent Lionsgate Limited releases)
-- The studio runs separate physical media & digital distribution teams, and the immersive track was just never made available for digital distro (kind of a sub-bullet for the previous - either bureaucracy or inadvertent omission)
- The only immersive track available is lossy (Dolby Digital Plus) (think direct to streaming titles)

OK, thank you, I understand now.

Ok, I'm happy with the buy. I really don't like John Cena as an actor (fabulous human being) but the scene between him and Tweety Bird was WELL worth the price of admission.

Also, with the DTS-HD track and my Marantz DTS-HD + Neural:X actually does a good job with the 3D sound presence.

This will stay on my drive for reference.

Fwiw, the recent release Pressure, was initially available without atmos. However Pressure got updated recently with atmos, thus making my 4k disc (purchased specifically for the atmos track) redundant.

Sometimes you need to put pressure on studios for the missing asset(s)…no pun intended.

I hope this is the case with Coyote. I have the steelbook on order for December 1 with Atmos. Not jacking around on this movie,
