Whats happening when my disk takes 12hrs to import

nrwatson

Well-known member
I have just put in a disk band new surface completely clean that has taken 12hrs and 21 minutes
when it was importing at 90 % imported it told me there was 30 mins remaining an hour later there was 45 mins to go so i left it overnight and it has now completed.
Does this disk take up more space has it imported correctly
Thanks sorry for the newby questions

It doesn't take more space. The movie studio likely authored a disc with sections that the film does not access but are on the drive that have intentional errors. The result is a DVD/BluRay player won't even see them, but a computer trying to copy the whole disc will run into the errors and fail to import. It is a silly game, as companies that make the disc copying programs then send out an update to the program saying disc ID#0df4889ab09809 should skip over the following sectors: 13f1e, 43ea3, etc and it copies with no issues. It really is annoying but that is the game Hollywood is playing and it isn't what one would call sophisticated copy protection.
