OFF-TOPIC What movies are your favorite recent discoveries?

I watched this back in 2018 as a rental when it came out and, surprisingly, I remember it pretty well. I never did view it again but now that you bring it up I should give it another try!
Here's what I wrote back then:
In general I really enjoyed this movie, particularly the first 4/5ths or so. At some point the outcome became evident but the ride was still good. I found Grey likeable at times and annoying at times, but this played completely into the plot...I think I'd enjoy it more on second viewing.

I think this would make a great premise for a TV series, there were a lot of hints of some depth and breadth (world building) surrounding the premise, which is one reason why I liked the movie, that could be expanded on. Doll House and Continuum (the future parts of it) come come to mind without thinking too much about it.

The "outcome becoming evident" aspect; I actually did not conceive of it ending the way that it did. I was actually pleasantly surprised. Also, I work in cybersecurity and I was pleased to see solid accuracy when representing UI interfaces, command prompts, etc. Often, cyber-films have some fake UI that is supposed to translate well. Seeing SUDO at the command prompt shows attention to detail that I appreciate.

Thanks for the suggestion. Just watched. The trailer and audio tracks made me believe the movie was at least dubbed in English. My wife prefers not using subtitles for 90+ minutes straight and I'll admit I was tired too since it was a later night viewing. Very funny movie, but I bet I would have enjoyed it more if the entire title was in English, not just the narration. Would recommend, but viewer beware, you'll have to read about 2/3 of the movie.

I actually keep subtitles enabled for every film, so it's habit for me. I realize that when rewatching films like "A Clockwork Orange" just how much nuance I had missed by only hearing the audio.

Me too but i get what they mean… thats why i cant wait for the madvr dynamic subtitle algo were you can make the subtitles (that are in the file like with K or apple tv stream and not separate) darker or give it the same color as the background or make very small in size. I cant wait until they release this algo because it would be great with K , atleast in my point of view

No worries! Typing can be misunderstood, I read your comment as coming from a place of genuine sharing, so my suggestion to start a thread was to channel that energy to benefit more people. Also, I have complex feelings about subtitles myself.

For all films, subtitles take your attention down, and splits your attention from the acting and visual storytelling. I don't like that.

For English language films, I additionally find subtitles distracting from the instant to instant storytelling, where the subtitles themselves are micro-spoilers of events just as they are about to happen. My kids prefer subtitles by default for everything, and I insist that we watch without them. I understand dialogue can sound muffled, but that's largely user error in my experience. Not the audience member, but the home theater setup itself. I've focused on audio treatment in the room to reduce reverb so all dialogue is crisp and clear in the theater. I haven't treated the living room, and I myself miss a word sometimes, so I'm more flexible there.

For foreign language films, yes we need subtitles! But at least they're not micro-spoiling the dialogue.

Curiously, where did you see this?

I watched it in HD from Kscape store. As we all know, if a film is immersive enough...the quality of the print almost does not matter. HD is fine for this film, IMHO. If Kscape upgrades the quality to UHD, I will follow upgrade as well.

Yorgos Lanthimos is next-level out there...I've savored every single one of his films. This film is on my short list.
