What happens to your K library when you croak? It must self destruct.

One of the questions I had to answer was whether my kaleidescape was registered to an individual or a trust. I titled it in my trust and would assume it would transfer with my trust because otherwise what’s the point?

Since you can change your account name, email address and password, leave detailed instructions! Also your password for your email in case there is some type of verification.

Who knows. Not a lawyer, but you can legally change your name. Just seems to be a field on your account along with email and password.

I just upgraded to a 88 TB Terra Server so in registering my system I used my Trust, and yes my prior license still works. I used my name before.

And Could my trust be named the CINERAMAX TRUST? :D

Of course, the trust name controls nothing, the trust document identifies the person(s) that control trust activities (the Trustee(s)). Just be sure it's a Revocable Trust if YOU want to maintain control while you're alive. AFAIK most, if not all, states require the Trustee to be someone else if the Trust is Irrevocable.

At risk of sounding a bit like a jerk, anybody who has the money to afford a K system should have done some financial planning and have a trust setup. Don’t think because you’re young that you have years left; having to comb through the financial aftermath of a younger family member’s death made an awful situation even worse.

Sorry, my law partner (Steve) posted at the same time!. 😁 (Also agree with SeriousSloth!)

I've been informed that K will be working to clarify the legal side of the question presented in this thread, so I would expect an answer at some point in the near future.

To those that asked, yes, I'm an attorney (and my wife is a contracts attorney), but neither of us provides any legal advice to K on any subject, and certainly not regarding the question presented in this thread. I do have a legal opinion, but it's irrelevant in this case because I'm not skilled in this area of the law.

Did anything official come of this?

I may go ahead and assign my collection to my trust. If this isn’t allowed it makes K or any other digital media a huge disincentive versus physical media.

Did anything official come of this?

Not yet, I suspect (but don't know) the legal issues presented may be more complex than expected, especially given the interests of the content owners and distributors.

As mentioned earlier, I believe the person receiving the K system, along with login info to the Store account, would maintain access to the account. They would have to change the email address and payment credit card on file, for obvious reasons, but I believe the account would be accessible.

Somebody posted in another thread that during setup, they had the option of putting in a corporation or trust. Did they make a change?

I don't know if they made any change. But it allows you to insert the name of the owner. So I inserted the name of my revocable trust which has been formally setup by my attorney brother-in-law (although I'm a retired attorney, as a PI attorney what do I know about trusts. HA!) Nothing on the owner page stated that I couldn't list my trust so I did.
