Video freezing for a split seconds

My player has video frames freezing for an instance and getting no audio. It goes for a few frames and freezes again. If I pause the video, it plays back normally for a few seconds and then starts doing it again. Any thoughts?

first thing to check is if it's happening at the same spot in a movie over and over again.... if so, you should first try to delete and reload the video. Even though Kaleidescape is supposed to report import errors, many of us have noticed it doesn't ALWAYS work.

If that's not the case, the next likely culprit is networking problems. What's your network setup between the player and the server? Is it going through multiple switches? Be sure you're using high-quality ethernet cabling (cat 5e at least, or cat 6). I had similar problems and had to replace my consumer-grade netgear switch with a commercial-grade HP Procurve.

You can also ask your dealer (or Kaleidescape directly) to check your log files to see if they see errors. They can sometimes help diagnose if it's a networking issue, a DVD data issue, a server issue...

hope that's helpful,

Buffering

Hi,

On a slightly related subject, does Kscape buffer when a movie is paused? The freezing issue does sound like a network speed issue that I had. Seems like pausing a movie would give it a chance to 'catch up,' and in some cases it almost seemed like it got ahead. I wasn't sure if the players have hard drives in them that would allow for some buffering.

Thanks, Steven

Agree with Josh, these issues tend to be from either import issues or networking and in many cases even the import issue is really a networking issue the affects the import. Follow Josh's advice.
