Upgrade Pricing Options.

Just a quick question that I am sure has been asked before but I couldn't find the answer.

If I have catalogued a disc for a movie only available in HD and used the D2D upgrade pricing to upgrade to HD what will happen should the movie subsequently become available on UHD/HDR? Let's assume that the movie has both D2D and digital upgrade pricing available.

Will I get the option to perform a D2D upgrade (Even though I have already used this to upgrade to HD), a digital HD to UHD upgrade option, the cheapest of the 2 upgrades, both upgrade prices or something else depending on the studio?

Many thanks.

Appreciate the response. Anecdotally it would seem that it is better to exercise patience then and not upgrade to HD and wait for a move to be released on UHD/HDR and then utilise a D2D offer.

The only flaw with this is if by waiting a movie is removed from the store entirely....

This situation has changed in the past year or so.

It used to be the case that you might have a disc on your system (or one that you placed into the tray), and you'd do a disc-to-digital offer on that disc. Then, later, the only version of the movie in your library would be the HD version that you downloaded, and so if 4K came along, you would get an upgrade offer from HD download to 4K download. Sometimes, those offers are less favorable in terms of pricing than a disc-to-digital offer.

Now, the movie store remembers the discs you've cataloged or imported on your system, even if you later delete that cataloged/imported version from the server. So, if a 4K version comes along later, there's at least the possibility of your receiving a disc-to-digital upgrade offer.

The movie store will always show you the most favorable price available. If that happens to be a disc-to-digital offer, that's what you'll be shown.

Very useful information. Many thanks for the response. So it sounds reasonable to upgrade some of my older titles to HD knowing that if UHD comes along and there is a D2D offer associated with it that it will be available to me.

Thanks again.
