Switches for 2017

I see a lot of love in here for Ubiquiti APs. I would suggest, if you're interested in have super high performance WiFi, that you check out Ruckus. I used to use Ubiquiti hardware on my WiFi installs, but once I started installing Ruckus, including testing at my own house, I will never go back. I started using Ruckus at home back when the ZF7363 was current, and have moved through the lineup. Currently I am using an R710. Real-world performance with multiple (several) clients is hardly even worth comparing with Ubiquiti, it's that much better. A good car analogy might be going from a Mazda Miata, which is a darn nice car (I own an all-original, low-mileage 1990 Classic Red NA), to a Porsche Cayman GT4. If you know cars, I don't have to say more than that. ;)

Funny you should compare the Mazda Miata - my dad has car #2003 an original blue with the optional hard top that he uses every once in a while I think he only has about 30k miles on it. We all have fun with him calling it the lawn mower. Yes it is a nice/fun driving car but its no Porsch Cayman GT4.

I will be looking to get into wifi pretty soon, I will take a look at the Ruckus.

Thanks
Marc

I don't think anyone disagrees that Ruckus is high quality hardware. However, it was the price point and access ( of Ruckus) that helped Ubiquity become who they are today. With Ruckus recently selling their wireless business, I wonder what the future holds. I would also argue that that ubiquity mesh gear is on par.

You could consider Luxul as well. I find them as robust as Ruckus and you don't have to pay a subscription fee. I have 10 luxul APs in my place and find the handover between APs to be better than the 2 AP unifi system I have in another house.. although that's not using the current hardware which may have improved.
