Stratos on it side

The Strato-C and Compact Terra Servers can be mounted vertically, K offers a wall mount for this purpose, so obviously they are okay with a vertical installation.

Jim

I have one of my Strato C mounted on the wall behind a TV. I got the best cooling performance when the front fascia was facing down. It actually runs cooler this than my other Strato C which is rack mounted.

Ok thanks.
What about the Strato and the Strato S ...?
Not sure if there is a wall mount kit available for the full size Strato models. It’s the same board. The airflow is from its front to its back. Hot air is less dense and lower pressure therefore it will escape the Strato’s chassis and go up. The front fascia (air intake) looking down and the exhaust vents looking up will allow the best airflow.

Correct. Airflow is from front to back. Hence, vertical mount is fine, but mounting it vertical on its side is not recommended.
For the Stato S, things can be different, depending how long the device has been operated horizontally. Since it has a harddriver build in, the bearings of the drive may not like it to be run vertically if it was operated horizontally for a couple of years.

Interesting point. I have heard of this before but I thought it wasn’t a proven science.

Not sure if it´s proven science, but i started my working career in IT and from operational staff of large datacenters, i got the message that it´s not a problem to operate harddrives vertically, but you shouldn´t change the orientation over time.

Ok, thanks. I really appreciate all replies and help. My rack is full and was looking for alternative ways to place it. I'm going to move things around so it'll fit without issues.
I don't want to chance putting it on its side.
