Strato with an Blu-Ray or Ultra HD Blu-Ray Drive

Hi guys,

I would love to see a Strato with a Blu-Ray Drive or even better a Ultra Blu-Ray Drive. The reason for it is that I think clients would like the 4K capability but they would still have a few discs that they may still need to play and don't necessarily want to buy an alto for the functionality or want to invest in a lower quality output when they could have 2 Stratos with drives instead.

Thanks,

George

I second this excellent suggestion. Wish I had thought of it earlier. :)

I attended a Webinar put on by Kscape's product evangelist about a month ago in which he stated that they will "probably" explore the following options: 1) Including a disc drive in the Strato, or 2) Produce a separate disc drive that interacts with KScape encore products.

It's definitely on the radar.

This is what we were told in person as well.

I think we are still a month off of that functionality coming via software update. I need to check my schedule to verify that.

From my email form Kaleidescape:

Playback from Disc Server is planned for May. Until then, Strato can only play downloaded Movie Store content, including the latest 4K Ultra HD titles, as well as thousands of Blu-ray quality and DVD quality titles.
· Lossless bitstream audio like Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD MA, Dolby Atmos, and DTS:X is planned for April. Until then, Strato will support 5.1-channel Dolby Digital and DTS, output either as a bitstream or decoded to PCM.
· CinemaScape is also planned for April.
· Encore systems (systems containing Alto, Strato and/or Terra) are limited to a maximum of four movie players until the software update planned for May.

I really hope that IF they decide to add a separate disc drive for those of us that already have a Strato, it won't cost more than a standalone UHD player.
