I’m considering buying a used strato for the family room that would integrate with my existing 6gb terra and strato c system that’s in the theater, but I have a few questions:

  1. Will kaleidescape auto manage what’s stored on the strato vs terra?
  2. Will there be any quality difference watching content that’s stored on the terra vs strato?
  3. Outside of the download speed difference, are there any other differences that I need to be aware of?
  4. Is there an expected timeline for drive failure or should this not be a concern?
  5. If the drive does fail, what the cost for an out of warranty drive replacement?
 
1. Terra is the default for all 4K downloads
2. None (shouldn't be)
3. None I can think of (performance related)
4. Expected? No. (Luck of the draw...I've owned 3U's with 14 drives that went 10+ years without a single failure, and several Terra Servers without a failure over many years, BUT, I've also had a couple of client's lose a Terra drive under warranty.
5. There is no repair option (PM, or email me for more info)

Not sure if it falls under 2 or 3, but playback zones are more limited for content on the Strato. Squarely in the #3 category it won't download while in playback, even if coming from the Terra (if I recall correctly.)
 
To piggyback off of the questions, if the HDD fails on a Strato/S can it be used as a viewing only zone like a Strato C (assuming there is another Terra/Strato with storage in the system)?
