The forum is free to use and most of the forum can be used by guests who are not registered....

... but we strongly encourage you to register for a full account. There is no cost to register for a full account.

Benefits of registering for a full account:

    • Participate in the discussions! You must have a registered account to make posts on the forums. You will be able to start your own thread on a topic or question, or you can reply to other threads/discussions.
    • Use the "Conversation" feature (known as "private messaging" on other forums) to communicate directly with any of the other users here.
    • Access the Files area. The "resources" area of the forum contains many "Favorite Scene" and Script files that can dramatically increase the enjoyment of your Kaleidescape system. Go directly to great scenes in your favorite movies, created by other owners, and add automation to playback of your system with Scripts.
    • You won't see this annoying notice at the top of every screen!😊

It's easy and free to register for the forum. Just click the "Register" button in the upper right corner of this page, and follow the instructions there.

  • 🔷Why can't I make a new post here in "The Marketplace"? 🤔

All registered users can reply to other members' posts here in the Marketplace, to respond as potential buyer or ask questions of the seller.
However, only members who have paid to become "Premium" members or "Patrons" can make a new "for sale" post here in Marketplace.

Premium memberships can be purchased for as little as $10... a very reasonable fee in order to sell equipment here, far lower than the seller's fee would be on eBay or Audiogon or other sites. Our site doesn't sell ads or sell user's information. This small fee is the only source of funds for the site to offset the costs it takes to run the forum.

For more information on purchasing a Premium or Patron membership, please see the Account Upgrades section of your user profile.

Do you mean the original Strato?

I am a bit confused by some of the replies.

Is this device both a 4K player and 6TB of storage in one?

Or is it just a player without storage? Can you post the part number? I think they are four digits?

The Strato and Strato S are players and storage in one unit.

So this is part number K0509-0006? Sorry, I’m still getting familiar with the product history so just want to be sure … the generation before the Strato S?

Is it under warranty? When was it purchased?

@cinelife, correct me if I am wrong but there was a full (2RU) chassis Strato without the HDD installed briefly in the past.

Strato is 2RU height chassis, typically with 6TB or 10TB HDD installed.
Strato S is 1RU height chassis, typically with 6TB or 12TB HDD installed.
Strato C is 1RU height, half standard rack width, no HDD installed.

All are identical in playback capabilities. Strato and Strato S are also servers with 2 zone simultaneous playback capabilities. The download speeds are limited to around 150mbps. Downloads are paused if a movie is being played. If a Terra server is present within the system, the internal HDDs are used only when the Terra server is full.

If the OP posts a picture, we can figure out whether it has HDD or not.

Yes, you are correct, there was an older "Strato" version that does not have internal Storage, and it is 2RU. The last two digits in the serial number would be "0000." That Strato, and the Strato-C are the only Strato's without internal storage. (I was recently reminded of this Strato myself, it was not available for very long.)

The last two digits reflect the internal storage capacity:
K0510-0000 no storage (Strato)
K0509-0006 6TB storage (Strato)
K0509-0010 10TB storage (Strato)
K0509-1006 6TB storage (Strato-S)
K0509-1012 12TB storage (Strato-S)
