Rent only Title

Some titles start out as Rental only. If you rent it, you may get a discount if you purchase it when that option becomes available. The time period was 30 days, but at some point it was changed to: (this is up to the content owner, not K)

"Many movies can be purchased at a discount for a limited time after you rent them. The discounted pricing is shown when you view the movie in the movie store." (From the Help section of the Store Account)

What you are seeing is normal, although it does not happen with every title, it frequently happens with recent theatrical releases.

This is an 12 year old movie that doesn’t appear to be recently added?

Right, my statement that "it frequently happens with recent theatrical releases" was meant at a general point, not a statement of exclusion for other older titles (although I can see how it could be interpreted that way given my poor grammar :giggle:).

You will still see the occasional older film that is only available to rent.

Jim

I recently posted something similar with an another title (see post here). It actually turned out to be a 'data issue' and was intended to be available for purchase.

So, it may be worthwhile to shoot a quick email to K support and confirm this title is intended to be 'rental only'

Good point, that happens as well on occasion.

Jim

Well, someone did something. My Week with Marilyn just showed up as a D2D purchase offer for $3.14.

I had wondered about this one for a long time. Next time I see something like this I’ll post rather than wonder why. ;)

There are rental-only movies, but as Jim noted, they're most often brand-new releases that are in a "premium rental" window before being offered for electronic sale. It's not impossible to have an older movie that's only available to rent, but it's less common.
