Recycling Kaleidescape Server Discs

Over the last few years I have upgraded file systems from 1TB up to 6TB and replaced faulty discs. I now have 9 discs and before taking these to the recycling centre for destruction it seems a real shame that these can’t be recycled back to Kaleidescape.

What I have is 2 files sets and a spare failed drive (9 caddies for 1U server). All actual drives should be replaced but key is that I will throw away the cage and front cover mechanism which seems a shame.

Anyone know of ways that this can be recycled back to Kaleidescape?

K has indicated they do not want defective OOW drives, they can do nothing with them other than throw them away. I've asked on several occasions in the past, and that has always been the answer.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for your reply. I will dispose of them then at a recycling centre for electronic waste!
Thanks for your help and advise on the drives.

With the heavy weight, holding one in your hand convinces you a K disk cartridge (or any other old hard drive) is worth more, bud sadly, once the manufacturer warranty expires, they’re nothing more than a funny looking door stop. Best option is to e-recycle your old drives.

Andy's comment reminded me that my comment about K ("throw them away") implies they would throw them in the trash, and that would not be accurate. K would recycle them just as you are doing. My intended point is that there's economic waste in paying to ship them to K to do exactly what owners can do on their end (recycle them).
