Possible to either disable IR receiver on a player, or associate a remote with a player?

Well-known member
I have three players in one place, and would like to use the regular Kscape IR remote to control one of them, but without the others responding to the IR commands.

Is it possible to either:
- associate the remote to a particular player, or
- disable the IR port on a player (I know, I can put opaque tape over it, but I was hoping for a more sophisticated approach) ?

Thanks

There are better people than me to answer this, but a few thoughts:

Typically when you plug a hardwired cable into the "IR-In" plug in back of a component, it usually disables the front IR port. I'm pretty sure (not 100% positive) that Kaleiedescape acts this way. So you may be able to work with that.

I'd buy an IR Repeater/Router like one from Xantech, (or an RF-to-IR device like can be gotten from Universal Electronics), one that can handle multiple IR outputs (which usually run to flashers or directly into boxes like Kaleidescape units that take IR-in via a mini-jack on back). Configure your IR Router or RF-to-IR unit to route all IR to its Output #1 port, connect that port directly to the back of the K player you want to control. Connect two more ports from the Xantech unit or router (which should never get a signal if you've configured it right) to the other K players, and that should disable the front IR ports.

A related, and IMO better approach is to just move to an RF remote... they come with RF-to-IR control units that will do exactly what you want... but more importantly, you're no longer blasting unreliable Infrared all over the room, you're sending more reliable RF to the control box and the control unit will route it via cabled-IR to the back inputs of any K player you like.

There are two different infrared control sets supported, which are derived from the Kenwood and Toshiba DVD player commands. You can turn off one or the other in the browser interface's Settings > Components > Control options. The Toshiba codes are the codes programmed into the Kaleidescape remote.

So, simply uncheck "Toshiba" on any player you don't want the Kaleidescape remote to function with.

Oh...c'mon....we all knew that....:D

(Thanks Tom)
