New update causing issues

I received the new update on my E the other day. Immediately I’ve experienced issues. After dealing with the S I decided to trouble shoot. Changed out the hdmi and lowered the hdmi down to 13.5Gbps.

That did nothing to fix the issue. Well I just put the original hdmi cord back in to find how hot it was. Just checked the system through my network and found it’s over 50c . I’ve never seen it past mid 40’s before the update.

Anyone else having issues?

I had a similar experience, when the HDMI was set to auto in the K, which had been the case through several years and different Terras. Nothing else had changed, AFAIK, except K updates, but don't remember which version 1st exhibited anomalies, such as only playing SD for 4K downloads, not playing several , different downloaded movies. Changed HDMI ports, but no joy.

Support had me set to 13Gps as well, but I suspect something is off in the K code, since 18 had worked just fine and 18 from Xfinity works fine, as it always does in my setup, which includes Trinnov 32, JVC rs3100. Really don't think throttling down to HDMI 13 is where this should be, as eventually >13 will be of use.

thank you very much

I wonder if the new update, cited below, has fixed this. When I get a chance, I'll check the version on my machine and change HDMI back to auto.

Thank you very much

My system is showing the update completed 8pm. That’s literally the exact moment my issues started. Couple days, HDMI’s, and resets later I’m still having the same issue.

What has been happening?
The picture will go black and lose connection for a moment. It’ll keep happening every few minutes after it starts. Also the player seems to be getting significantly hotter than before. It was never above mid 40c. Now it’s hitting 50c and that’s when the problems start. My hdmi cable was burning the other day when I swapped it out mid movie.

Jeez. I hope you have a ticket in with support for Monday.

I was hoping to get responses here first so I’d have more to go with. Unfortunately I’ll have to contact them with just what I have
They can have a look into the log files of your unit.
If you´re telling support your unit gets hot and you´re getting video dropouts and it all started the moment the update was finished, that´s a lot.

thanks for the advice. I emailed them last night with all the info. Watched a movie and took down the time stamps for them. Hopefully I hear back soon

I emailed them and they claim it’s a EDID issue. They’ve seen reports saying it’s been having issues since November.

I’ve had no issues at all up until that exact update. My kid watches movies daily and has never complained once about it. It seems like once it gets to 50c the problems start.

What’s weird is the update notes specifically focused on heat regulation. Now suddenly my player is getting hot for reason.

Now they want me to hook it up to my tv direct. I’m also noticing since the email every part of my system is running at a lower temp. It’s almost like they changed something remotely. Not complaining but I’m definitely curious

Just to add I decided to buy a little Aircom usb fan. Completely silent and has rubber feet. It’s small like the player too. On the lowest setting it’s not even hitting 40c anymore. What a difference $15 made

50C is really not that hot for electronics (I'm a hardware design engineer). I would be surprised if hitting temps in the 50C range was causing your issues but it could point to some other hardware issue with your player. Temps that start to approach 80C, 90C, 100C can show issues with timing and reliability.

Do you have an Apple TV? I had this type of problem when I added the Apple to my system. Turned out the Apple TV was sending EDID requests even while not watching it. Changed my control system to turn off Apple TV when ever not watching it and this fixed my problem.

I've not had this issue but I do know people who have, so this would definitely be something to check.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this was part of the issue. I’m running it through my A10 with the Kaleidescape. The Denon separates the signal so the OLED knows what input is needed but sometimes it crosses when Apple isn’t turned off.

How do I fix this issue?

Just turn off the Apple TV when not in use and see if that fixes the dropouts. If it doesn’t then it is something else.
