Hi Folks, all dealers should have received the following email from K regarding the release of the new compact version of the Strato:

"Kaleidescape has long been the preferred solution for independent movie playback in multiple rooms. While the Kaleidescape Strato’s combined player/server design is perfect for many systems, the chassis size needed to accommodate the high-capacity internal hard drive can make rack space an issue when a system includes multiple zones in a large home or yacht. Moreover, a system that will support simultaneous playback in more than two zones should store all the movies on a Terra server to ensure the best performance. We saw a need for a compact, no-storage version of the Strato player.

Today we began shipping the new Kaleidescape Strato C Movie Player.

The Strato C is a smaller, more compact version of the Kaleidescape Strato, without internal storage. Two Strato C players fit in one unit of rack space. In other words, the Strato C requires one quarter of the rack space required by Strato.

Strato C supports all of the playback features of the Strato movie player, including playback of movies in true 4K Ultra HD with high dynamic range (HDR) at up to 60 frames per second. Strato C also supports lossless multichannel and object-based audio, including Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, DTS:X, and DTS-HD Master Audio. The acclaimed Kaleidescape onscreen user interface is displayed in 4K Ultra HD at 60 frames per second, resulting in fluid animation and a stunning visual impact. Strato C can play movies from a Terra movie server or a Strato player.

We are accepting orders for the Strato C movie player, for shipment within 5 business days. The MSRP for Strato C is $3,495 USD.

Effective immediately, the Strato movie player will only be available with internal storage (6, 8, or 10TB). The Alto movie player will continue to be available with or without internal storage.

Sincerely,

Thanks for posting that Mike, I started to, but got interrupted and never got back to it.

I see the specs have no mention of Disc Server access? Would it be the same as the current Strato (e.g. DVD only at this point) with all of us hoping you get the Strato/Disc Server combo working for blurays at some point...

It is supported, just like on Strato. We do mention it on the second page of the spec sheet, right at the end:

• DVD, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW (from Kaleidescape Disc Server)

Mike, will the Strato C also be able to access and play Blu-ray quality content stored on a network-connected Alto just as a regular Strato can?

Thanks
