mixing drive sizes

Just wondering what the problems are with mixing drive sizes.

I have a 3U with about 5 disks.

I currently have 1 & 2GB's (3x1GB and 2x2GB, i think), I'll need another drive soon and will want to purchase the 4GB.

If the max use on the system is equal to the smallest drive size, it would make sense to upgrade, if there's no problem, then, great.

Any ideas.

The first two new larger drives you add to your Server will only yield the storage content of the drives they are replacing for RAID and Hot Spare.

I cannot tell for sure what you have based on your description but I assume the 2TB's are the largest drives in your system. If that's the case, then adding a new 4TB, would result in a net 2TB of additional storage (because it would free up one of the 2TB's). This would be the same result with the next 4TB you install, after which all additional 4TB's would result in the full 4TB being available.
