    • Use the "Conversation" feature (known as "private messaging" on other forums) to communicate directly with any of the other users here.
    • Access the Files area. The "resources" area of the forum contains many "Favorite Scene" and Script files that can dramatically increase the enjoyment of your Kaleidescape system. Go directly to great scenes in your favorite movies, created by other owners, and add automation to playback of your system with Scripts.
    • You won't see this annoying notice at the top of every screen!😊

It's easy and free to register for the forum. Just click the "Register" button in the upper right corner of this page, and follow the instructions there.

  • 🔷Why can't I make a new post here in "The Marketplace"? 🤔

All registered users can reply to other members' posts here in the Marketplace, to respond as potential buyer or ask questions of the seller.
However, only members who have paid to become "Premium" members or "Patrons" can make a new "for sale" post here in Marketplace.

Premium memberships can be purchased for as little as $10... a very reasonable fee in order to sell equipment here, far lower than the seller's fee would be on eBay or Audiogon or other sites. Our site doesn't sell ads or sell user's information. This small fee is the only source of funds for the site to offset the costs it takes to run the forum.

WANTED: Looking for a cheap 3U (and M700)

Hi,

I am about to invest into a Media server. I'd love to have a kaleidescape system but I think whether it's new or old it'll be too expensive. Therefore I will go with an alternative system which will cost about 10k$ for 5 Music zones and 2 AV zones.

But before I decide in about 3 weeks anyone who has a decently priced system made of a 3U with some 2TB/3TB and optionally a M700 Disk Vault or a M500 BluRay Player please PM me or send an email to areski@iberrakene.com

Have you considered a 1U with 3TB disks? You might be able to get one of those and possibly an M-class player and an older KMUSIC Player in the $10K range you mentioned.

3U / 1U

I have a question , for a 1U how much effective is there when filled with 4 x 3TB ? I mean how much does redundancy take?

Thanks,

Areski

For a 1U server with 4 x 3TB drives. 3 x 3TB will be used for your movie collection.

The fourth drive will be used for RAID-K to give protection against a single drive failure.

I think the flawed thought in the original question was "3U" with 2/3TB drives with the word "cheap". There is no such combination. A 1U with 2/3TB drives is not even in that "cheap" category. I'd suggest you find a used 1U still under warranty then upgrade the HD's to 3TB. A 3U, based upon your stated requirements, is completely out of the question.

It's not flawed at all there has been used 3U which have gone for 6-10k$. I was stupid enough to miss one at 6k$ 1month ago. So Yes unlike what you think , it is possible to get a 3U Kal system "cheap" . Maybe I should have used the word "reasonable" ?

Reasonable probably would have been more appropriate.
