KServer 1500 hard drives set compatible with 3U?

Hello,

I was wondering if a complete set of Kserver 1500 (4 drives) would be usable in an empty 3U server?

Thanks!

Mike

Yes, as long as the 4 drive set is functional (good drives with a file system). Keep in mind that you may still need to add a Hot Spare at some point, depending on the condition of the 4 drives. The 1U only has KRAID, it does not have a Hot Spare like the 3U.

Jim

got it. thanks Jim for the quick response.

I assume that in adding it directly into the 3U, you can just add a hot spare and it'll automatically recognize and add to the file system?

Correct, if those drives and file system are good, you just need to add another drive to act as the HS. Keep in mind the added HS drive needs to be at least as large as the largest drive in the 3U.
