Kaleidescape To Deliver 4K

I think 4K isn't that big an improvement for full screen video on most typical display sizes. The place I think we will see the killer app won't be greater resolution- again for the general market. It will be all the extra content you can fit on the screen- now it won't just be one show or movie, you'll have other windows open that show various things.

For many of us Kaleidescape owners, we really care about the image and sound quality and I think its great that we will get it. Many of us have large displays and we will see the benefits.

I am kind of excited to think how nice the K user interface might be in 4k. There will be a lot more pixels to play with when rendering the cover art, displaying movie particulars, etc...

I just got myself a 55" Samsung 4K/UHD TV for my lounge & the PQ is stunning!!

Tried a 720p/1080i from Sky HD (Sat TV),1080p Bluray via M700 & 4K via Netflix/YouTube and the results were amazing.

Avatar at 1080p I felt in certain scenes was almost 3D & the 4K YouTube video of the Northern lights was unbelievable.

So i can't wait to see how good the PQ will be through a K 4K player.

Ian.

Enjoy!

I, on the other hand, am waiting for K and more content before jumping into the 4k pool. Maybe get another generation of development too. Can't wait though, the demos are spectacular.

...K is working hard to increase the number of titles and studios at the Store, but I have not heard them commit to having "most" studios available by the end of the year...

All well and good, but at this stage I have ZERO access to ANYTHING from the K store.

Understood, and I hope that changes soon for all K owner's outside the U.S., but I'm not sure the lack of access is K's fault (could be, don't know), but it would not surprise me if the problem was with regulatory agencies, or web based, or contract related (licensing) restrictions, or all three. Whatever the reason, I'm sure it's disappointing to not have the same support as U.S. owners.:(

Hopefully that will change going forward.

I'd much prefer to buy from the K store, at least I know all those titles have been bookmarked and have scenes. It seems every 2nd disc I buy is missing video bookmarks and I'm up for $10/disc plus shipping to turn it into the proper K experience. Probably makes it cheaper to buy from the K store, if I could, but even if I could it would take a month of Sunday's per download maxing out at 1 Mbps (on a good day). Internet via cable hasn't been invented in my part of the world.

I would be happy when k finally brings the bookmarking tool to its customers. Here in Switzerland currently nearly every title I buy is not bookmarked ... and I would have to send it for bookmarkin. 10$ more for each movie is not acceptable. I Need only two Bookmark: Movie_Start (for playing movie directly) and Begin_Endcredits.

To be honest, I don't see a problem for K to implement this very easily. They have already done it for personal favorite sceenes. At least they could inform if the tool will be coming and if it will, the planed date of release.
