NEWS: Kaleidescape App for iPhone

The Kaleidescape App for iPhone is now available on the App Store in the United States. The app scans a DVD or Blu-ray Disc barcode, and then displays whether or not that title is on your Kaleidescape System, and if so, in what format. This is great when you?re out shopping and you?re unsure whether you already own a particular movie.

To download the app, launch App Store on your iPhone and search for "Kaleidescape", or follow this link to download it through iTunes.

Tom, the App is only available in the US iTunes store. It's not available in the Australian iTunes store, and it seems Apple won't let me access the US store from an Australian IP. Can you post the App to all iTunes stores?

interesting app, but poor name IMO... Kaleidescape Disc Manager maybe? And then save the official "Kaleidescape" title for a future app that does what remotescape does (and perhaps also what this one does)

I can't imagine K would ever do a Remotescape-like App. It would just kill the Remotescape company if K were to do that, but for free.

Unless they were somehow working together... so? Google released free navigation apps for Android devices and killed paid nav. They did the same with the voice-searching and killed other paid apps that did the same...

Regardless, it's still a bit odd that the "official" kscape app is basically just a barcode scanner/inventory manager.

Hi,

By 'scanning' the bar code, does it mean that it takes a picture through the iPhone camera?

Don't some movies have different bar codes on different boxes?

Thanks, Steven

The UPC/EAN barcode coverage of DVDs and Blu-ray Discs distributed outside the United States is limited. As a result, the app is currently available only in the US.

Yes.

Yes. Our database has fairly comprehensive coverage of UPC barcodes for discs distributed in the United States.

Oh, that's a shame. But it would still be nice to have a Kaleidescape App on my iPad, despite the limited functionality for International customers.

An app that would synchronise with the server and give collection details would be most useful.

Such an app should not need to be region specific...useful for all not just US based owners.

Well guys, if you want that info by barcode... look at mymovies at the website mymovies.name. The program is like a "poor man's kaliedescape" but it does have a very good user-generated database and a multi-add feature in its iphone app that lets you scan all your barcodes and add them to your collection remotely.

iPhone App

Hi,

Just curious, why doesn't the app work with music? It seems like it has to have an internet connection to work, but where is my library information 'housed?' Is it on a Kaleidescape server?

Thanks, Steven
