I’m excited and can’t wait to reduce some of my 3K physical media to digital. I plan on buying the Combat Terra 30TB movie server in October 2027. Any tips from my Kaliedescspe friends?

Congratulations! I somewhat recently got into the Kaleidescape ecosystem myself and love it.

I found pulling up the local Kaleidescape web server on a laptop was a convenient way to track successful disk reads when cataloging a lot of disks.

Most disks took only a couple seconds for me, while others (even some brand new and sealed) took quite a long time to catalog.

Some reported an error initially, but cleaning the disks and retrying worked for almost all the discs I have.

Once you catalog your disks, you can delete them from your server and still receive any available digital offers on them. This prevent polluting your movie wall and potential digital movie posters you might get with movies you can't actually watch yet on your Kaleidescape. Perhaps someone knows a better way.

You can access your local Kaleidescape web server by entering the following URL in your web browser:

-I've had my V for over a year buying most new content on K-scape but only more recently have transitioned the majority of my pre-existing library from disc/Plex to K-scape.
-I catalogued all my discs and bought all the $5 D2D titles. I put all others on my wishlist and waited for sales on titles or good pricing on content sets. While you can save money this way it's still an expensive endeavor regardless. Being patient helps but I was not always successful waiting it out.
-You may want to keep a list of what titles actually are better quality on disc. There are still many titles (mainly catalogue titles) that are not 4K on K-scape or don't have object based audio track on K-scape.
-I have about 500 movies so far so to purchase a server to hold the majority of my movies would just be too much for me and have opted not to do so. If you have the money it is certainly convenient. However with only 10min per download we've actually been fine without a server and I keep movies that I'm intending to watch soon downloaded.
-Did I read your post correctly that you have 3,000 discs? Or was that a typo and you meant 4K (UHD) discs? If the former well then good luck - that's a lot of time and money!

It’s a mix of dvds, blu rays and 4K discs. My plan is to keep physical media for my Criterion Collection, Arrow, A24 and all Disney/Marvel.

Some quick tips on K vs. Disc. Criterion & Arrow you're best with discs. A24 has one exception: Under The Skin is available in 4K (SDR only) but only HD on disc. For Disney/Marvel, Disney went through a phase where they only had HDR10 on disc and reserved Dolby Vision for digital/streaming. For those titles, K has the Dolby Vision versions.
