Picked up Dust Bunny this morning and this evening we sat down in the theater to watch it and something is wrong with the aspect ratio... it says 24o.1 but it isn't triggering my Lumagen. Im seeing LB all the way around.
None of my other 240.1 movies do this.

Any thoughts?

Welcome to your very first 3:1 aspect ratio film. I'm sure K doesn't have that value in their metadata pick list, nor your Lumagen.

So, why does K have it listed as 240.1?
Man that’s a bummer, I was really excited to download this movie as I missed it in the theater. Hopefully Kscape will get this corrected. Keep us in touch on any updates. Thanks in advance

So, why does K have it listed as 240.1?
Probably because it’s the closest to 3:1 currently listed in their system and the closest available for sending to external systems.

Do you have a screen with automatic masking? Is your remote programmed to allow manual opening/closing?

I just feel that if K is saying theater a movie is in 240.1 it should be in 240.1 ..
This is very misleading and something needs to be done to correct the problem.

Not understanding this one. Are you saying you won't watch the movie because it's in its proper theatrical ratio but it's a brand new ratio so K lists the closest one? The movie isn't affected at all, it's exactly how it should be (to my knowledge).

I'd imagine K is working on adding 3:1 to their pick list, but it's not like that will suddenly make external processors/masking systems react appropriately. Can't Lumagen/MadVR automatically detect the aspect ratio based upon the image? I’m just trying to understand the pain point.

Maybe @J.Green or @MikeKobb can contribute?

Not sure what the issue would be with a video processor. The movie is in 3:1, which is much wider than 2.4. Like any film that is above 2.4, the Lumagen will just treat it as 2.4 as far as scaling because it will just be in frame with letterbox bars above and below. I haven't looked at this on my system yet (I use a Lumagen), but would imagine it would be treated like any wider version than 2.4 (Like The Creator).

K only lists certain aspect ratios in their user interfaces, and they're based on the most commonly used aspects, and they're there specifically for automated masking systems. In-between ratios include an extra "trim" amount of metadata to guide masking systems into the correct ratio based on an amount of variance from an "anchor" ratio.

K lists 2.40, 2.35, 2.20, 1.85, 1.78, and 1.33 ratios, but there are plenty of films on the store in 2.0:1, 1.9:1, 2.76:1, etc., which have the extra trim value from the closest ratio.

I, too, wish they'd display actual aspect ratio, though since I've added the Lumagen to handle scaling instead of using lens memory, I care a lot less about this change. I do think they should make the change, though.

My system has been torn up a bit this last week, so I haven't watched Dust Bunny yet, though I'm looking forward to it. If you're seeing letterbox on all 4 sides, there could be a metadata problem with the title, but if you're just seeing it on the top and bottom, that is to be expected with a 3:1 aspect ratio.

My Lumagen frams it on all 4 sides.
If I disable the auto aspect ratio.. ie press 2.40:1.. it will then frame it correctly with black bars top and bottom. I use an A-lens and scope screen.

I'll look at mine tonight as well for another data point.

Ok, maybe I didn't what long enough.
When did you guys download the movie?
I bought mine only hours after it became available maybe something was changed or flags were added...idk

Did some more testing. When I played the movie initially I had no issues with the aspect detection and proper showing. I stopped the movie about half way through and when I came back to play it, the Lumagen wasn't detecting it properly as reported before. I will let Lumagen know about this so they can take a look and see what may be tripping up detection.
