Downloads to Terra vs Alto

So I got my Terra 12 TB hooked up today, went in and added it via the browser interface and decided to download one of my movies to start it off.

This is where I have a question. It only showed my Alto as location to download in the store. Is there a setting to get it to download to the Terra server instead?

Also what is the best way to get the currently downloaded items off of the Alto HDD and onto the Terra Server in preparation for when I might upgrade the Alto to a Strato.

When your Terra and Alto are grouped together, they form one "System". The store shows you these systems as download targets. You cannot specify which component in the system the title will be downloaded to. When you queue a download, there is some logic within kOS that determines which device will actually download the content.

It's slightly more complicated than this but in general terms, for DVD quality and Blu-ray quality downloads, Terra is preferred over Alto so once you add a Terra to your Alto, in most cases, the downloads will go to the Terra.

As for moving already downloaded content from your Alto to the Terra, you could either:

1) temporarily separate the Alto and the Terra (into separate systems) and replicate the content from the Alto to the Terra, delete the content from the Alto and then group the two devices together again; or,

2) if you don't have a data cap on your internet service, simply delete the content from the Alto and then download it from the store again.

Option 1 has the benefit of not using any extra internet data but your Alto will be unusable during replication so you would lose access to your movie collection for at least a few days and possibly a week depending on how much content is on your Alto at the moment.

Option 2 leaves your system accessible and usable but will use up a lot of internet data.

Thank you for the information. My Alto is full now, so sure any new downloads will be going to the Terra. I think I may have a data cap, so will need to explore the replicate option for the existing data when I have some downtime. Also signed up for faster internet, so will wait till that goes online and at lease get the movies that I have not had downloaded first.
