Difference between k6000 & k5000?

I've got a 1U server and a music player, but need to pick up some players for the theater room and bedrooms. Any recommendations?

Briefly..... K5000-1080i. K6000-1080p.

As you use the word theatre I would get an M Class player if the budget allows. The M Class player will allow Bluray playback whilst giving you the benefit of the latest screen interface.

Forum member DigitalStudioWerks kindly maintains a thread containing a list of hardware and their respective specifications. This thread is a sticky located in this section of the forum.

Yes, once you've experienced M-Class you won't wish to go back! An option for you is to buy an M300 and KVAULT10, plus either the K5000 or K6000 to do your CD and DVD imports. I don't know how the pricing of that option stacks up against buying a new M700 vault, but you really must get into M-Class if you can.

Thanks for the info. Are there any special requirements for the 'M' series players? For example, is the vault required, or optional? Does it require HDMI inputs? I'm concerned about backward compatibility since my server is about 5 years old, and only has an RJ45 and an RS232 connection on the back.

Is the 'M' series compatible with that?

The M-Class players will play back all your existing content on the server without needing any additional hardware. To play back BR content, that content needs to be on the server for an M300 to play it, or the M500 can play the disc direct from the tray or from the server. To import BR content to the server you need an M500/700 or a KVAULT10 connected to an M300. If your display does not support HDMI connections, all the M-Class players have analog video output connections. The RS232 ports on players and servers aren't normally used except for control or diagnostics purposes.

You should be aware that the M700 Vault is subject to the analog video sunset rules and thus will have its analog outputs limited to 480i/576i.

An M-class player will work just fine with any model of Kaleidescape server. However, older 5U servers only have 100 megabit Ethernet and you will not be able to serve as many simultaneous playback streams as newer servers.

There were not too many of the 100 mbit servers made, the K2000. Most of the 5U servers were the K2500 with gigabit ethernet.
