Cover art no longer matches aspect ratio

Has anyone noticed a change with how cover art appears on an auto-masking screen when using INTERMISSION to “pause” a movie during a 2.35/2.40:1 movie?

I’ve had the pause button on my Savant remote programmed to send an INTERMISSION command for a couple years now, and in the past few months I’ve noticed that the image is getting cut off on the top and bottom (like it is meant to appear on a 16:9 screen). It is not a major dealbreaker, but I’d prefer to see the entire cover image like I used to.

For reference, here is what I see now vs. the entire movie poster.

Hi Andy, I did notice something similar on a few occasions recently. It also happened when I paused a movie to take calls, then decided to stop the movie (long call), and when I came back and started the movie again it had the wrong AR. I had to manually select 2.35 on my control panel before the system recognized the correct AR. I treated it as a simple temporary glitch and ignored it. It might not be related to what you are seeing.

Hello Andy,

It definitely shouldn't be doing that. Can you send me a PM to share a bit more about your system setup (CinemaScape vs. 16:9, video config, etc.) so that I can try to replicate this here in the lab? Additionally, If you send me a server serial number and an approximate time when you saw the above image, I can also take a look at your system logs to see if there are any clues.

For an Encore system you can navigate to the OSD Settings menu under "Advanced" and change the Subtitle Repositioning setting to "Always reposition subtitles...".

With that setting, cover art images are correctly scaled during Intermission to remain fully in the picture area without any further intervention required.

If you leave the setting at "Only reposition subtitles...", then your control system must send a "SET_SCREEN_MASK:1:" command to inform the player that a controlled screen mask is in use. If you don't send that command, then cover art images won't be scaled during intermission and subtitles won't be repositioned.

I have tested this on a Strato here in the lab and things are working correctly.

I'll test a Premiere system as well in a moment.
