connecting a K300 to a system with Blu Rays

I am Kaleidescape newbie putting together a system and have a question that I could not find an answer to:

If I purchased a used previous generation player (K300 or K6000), will that work with a newer server? I understand it won't play Blu Rays, but thinking this may be a inexpensive way for me to access the regular DVD's that I own. If this is the case, will the UI from that older player just not show the Blu Rays that I have loaded in the system?

Thanks for you guidance in educating me.

Yes, that's exactly what happens on my Premier system.

I have a grandfathered 3U with mostly M class players but that also has one K5000. The K5000 only sees the DVD rips I have and any movies I download in SD, but does not see Blu-Rays (I have a vault) nor HD content that I've downloaded.

I'll also point out that the K-store interface is quite nice. I have another system at a vacation house that has a grandfathered 1U server and a K5000 and K6000 player *ONLY*. So when I buy something in the store in HD, I get the option to download either HD or SD versions on my 3U system, but on my 1U system it will ONLY let me download the SD versions since that system has no HD capable players on it.
