CEC

Yeah, this was a bummer for me too, as @MikeKobb knows well. Basically, for our vacation home, the V standalone was the perfect Kaleidescape player. But I didn't want to get into programming control systems and higher-end remotes for this home... just wanted two easy remotes on the coffee table: Apple TV remote, and Kaleidescape Strato V remote. Pick up either one, press power, control volume, and navigate the system and all would switch and work well with the Marantz receiver driving the basic 5.1 audio system and the 4K video to the projector.

Apple TV remote works perfectly to do this... powers on/off, switches inputs, controls volume, etc. all via CEC.

Kaleidescape has a new V remote (and newer rev even has volume controls) so would have been perfect to accomplish what I wanted, but because it (currently) doesn't have CEC, now my family or our visitors are faced with the classic multiple-remote confusion. Until I program a universal remote (come on, Unfolded Circle 3!). But if/when Kaleidescape can add CEC remote, then it'd be the perfect system for my use in the vacation home... two easy-to-use remotes, easy enough for even AV-novice guests in the home to navigate Apple TV services and Kaleidescape for movies.

I know Kaleidescape team knows this... as a new lower-cost standalone device, more people will probably use the Strato V in a simple receiver+TV setup... or even just a TV+soundbar... with no crestron or harmony remote, etc, than ever would have done with a higher-priced Strato+Terra setup. So CEC would be great. From what I understand it's not a hardware limitation, just needs software update when they can get to this.

Seems CEC is available on almost all A/V equipment these days (even the cheapest stuff). Am I missing something on the problem of adding it the Strato V?

I think once K introduces CEC support for Strato V, we might need a new remote control for it as well that includes volume control. The default remote for Strato V doesn’t seem to have any way to control volume. The biggest advantage of CEC support will be the ability to use a single Strato remote to control the on/off and volume functions of your setup. It’s possible that the delay is due to the development of new hardware, such as a new remote for Strato V.

The KREMOTE-STRATO already has VOL+ and VOL- buttons on it. This remote -- with a blue navigation pad -- replaced the KREMOTE-40 -- the one with a silver navigation pad -- shortly after Strato V started shipping.
