Can't play back from 1U with 1 bad drive

If a 1U server has 4 drives and 1 of the drives goes bad and then one can no longer play back movies from this server, is it possible/likely that the drive is the only problem that needs fixing or is there definitely something wrong with the server itself as well? I know it is possible to get some diagnostics out of the serial port but do not have those.

Thanks for any help.
 
To my knowledge if a 1u server has a bad drive (bad as in amber light) the server should still function because of raid. However, if the drive is bad in that it won't even spin up, that might cause other symptoms.

I would try and power up the server with the bad drive completely removed and see if it will boot. With only one bad drive you should not suffer any content loss.
