BluRay Audio?

Yes, the Kaleidescape blu-ray player supports all the blu-ray audio formats (there are several of them). However, as always in the blu-ray world, "supports" can mean many different things. For the lossless, highest resolution audio formats (Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD), the player can only output them in bitstream format over the HDMI link. Meaning that you will need a receiver/pre-amp/audio processor that can decode these new audio formats.

I would love to see BluRay audio take off with higher quality sound than CDs for all general releases...

I can't really see that happening. Most people can't stand the price of NORMAL CDs currently, and are just fine with their quality (or the quality of an Amazon/iTunes download).

I'd say another strike is the fact that blu-ray adoption isn't very high overall. If people aren't going to pay more for what they can clearly see as a better picture, I doubt they'll pay more for a less tangible bump in sound quality -- which won't be as portable anyways (meaning if they want to listen to the music anywhere else but in their own rig, they either can't, or will need to downsample and burn to CD, convert to MP3 etc).

I would just like to see an audio format that doesn't end up compressing the dynamics to master the tracks at a higher average volume level to increase the "perceived" quality of the song by only making it louder but less dynamic.

See... everything you just said? The average consumer's eyes would glaze over, they'd pop their iPod headphones back in, and walk away quickly.

OK, how about "I would like it if I don't have to turn the volume on my TV from 38 to 12 when I switch from watching a DVD to listening to a CD."
