Blu ray region code errors

I have a few blu rays where the region allocated to the disc by the Kaleidescape database doesn’t match up with the region of the disc - typically it is where it is a region B disc but Kaleidescape has it as a region A disc (not uncommon with UK Criterion discs). So despite the fact that I have a region A player and a region B player in my premier system, neither player will play these discs - I get a message saying there is a mismatch between the disc and the player.

I tried contacting support a few months ago but they seemed to suggest the only solution was for me to send them the discs, but that just isn’t really an option giving the shipping costs.

Has anyone else had the problem and found a solution?

Thanks

Denis

Something isn't adding up. If you have a region A and region B player in your Premiere system then you should be able to play any disc that is recognized as region A or B. If the disc in question truly is recognized as region B, I'd expect it to be playable in either player (assuming the disc is inserted). Are you sure the disc is recognized as Region B?

For reference, you can read how K describes Blu-ray playback behavior here.

Does it have a region A or question mark (?) in the region code info of the movie details in the web interface?
If it does have an A and not AB and it's actually a B it wont play. If it has a ? and is a B it won't play.

I encounter this issue from time to time with discs and I have just mailed movies@kaleidescsape.com and they update with the correct info without sending the disc. But it could be that I only had the ? on these cases. It's about 30 discs that I mailed them about.

I have a region A player

And a region B player

For example, I then have the UK Criterion Edition of F For Fake. This is a Region B disc but the K-scape movie database categorises it as a Region A disc.

And when I try to play this, I get the following message on screen:

I've sometimes had the question mark, but I think the issues are with discs where the K-scape assigned region is incorrect.

Looking back at the email correspondence that I had with them, they said that the only ways that they could resolve the issues were to update the UPC (which I think I did, but maybe I should send a list of the UPCs where I have an issue, as in at least some cases I wasn't prompted to enter a UPC) or to loan them the disc.

It must have been identified as the US release. If you mail them the EAN/UPC for the UK version and say to them it's Region B locked it should sort it out.
