AMC and Universal reach landmark deal for early home releases

Love it. 17 days is a fine window. But I'd rather not be forced only to rent. I'd like to buy most movies.

I'm okay with renting initially, it allows me to make a decision about ownership. I can't count the number of times I've purchased a film only to find it was a "one-time" watch, and although it may be in my collection, at this point it's just taking up space. My exception is movies that are expected to be visual candy, with the higher audio codecs, I'll wait for those films, assuming I haven't already seen them on the circuit.

I agree, with the caveat that buying after renting should integrate the pricing (i.e. rented for $10, movie costs $30 to buy, sell it to me for $20).

That certainly makes sense.
