    Plex?

I had heard wonderful things about Plex and decided to try it when I wanted to set up a movie server for the family before coming to Kaleidescape. Since Plex has no online movie store, my main use entailed loading my own physical media. This was way too complex for even a technical person who...

    WANTED: M-Class Player for Trade

If anyone in the U.S. has an extra working M-class player of any level lying around and would be interested in trading for other electronics or speakers, I have a lot of stuff in excellent condition. I am in Connecticut and can deliver larger items to surrounding areas. I have a Kaleidescape...

    Feature Request - Tagging Scenes

In your scenario (no tags added), that would work as a filter for complete media items, such as films, but not for scenes because you have nothing to tell you whether Eddie is in the scene nor whether that scene contains comedic elements, hence the need for tags.

    Feature Request - Tagging Scenes

If you created groups of tagged scenes, you would want to call them something other than collections, maybe Scene Sets or Scene Groups. Sometimes dynamic filtering of scenes would be useful just as you can do with your content library now, though you would have to do a lot of tagging,e.g. give...

How to make Kscape bigger and more mainstream?

Maybe the more interesting discussion, since we know K is not going to allow 3rd-party storage for the previously mentioned reasons, is what could/might K do to reach a broader marketplace? Certainly, the Cinema One was a good first stab at a mid-market price point for an all-in-one movie...

    1U only partially powers up

It is likely the main board. Is there anyone that can repair that? Kaleidescape won't do that on out of warranty units.

    1U only partially powers up

I have a 1U server; when powered on, the little blue power light comes on, the fans come on but none of the following come on: ethernet connection, RS-232 diagnostics port (no output), lights on 4 disk drives. Is this likely a power supply problem even though some things are getting power or...

    Kaleidescape tops streaming last night

We have a small K server filled with movies. Last night we just wanted to watch a 1/2 hour of something funny before bed, so we selected Netflix on our Roku device and quickly found an episode of Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia (usually insanely funny). The episode was funny but every few...

Out of warranty Alto drive replacement

That is a good point about advanced replacement on the server. Maybe K is trying to make it as painless as possible, as long as you can afford the differential upcharge for the replacement unit.

Out of warranty Alto drive replacement

Why isn't equipment more repairable? [This is not meant to be contentious but just to reflect more of a user perspective on this issue, to try to get at some thoughts of how to bridge the gap between user repair desires and K's business needs.] This seems like something of an achilles heel for...

    When Can You Start Watching?

All K playback is from local media to avoid any playback glitches, such as an Internet slowdown, so the movie must be stored locally first.
