Wondering if this new standard (cinematic) would eventually percolate down to physical media (discs)? Or is this proprietary?
It is run by a group of enthusiastic Kaleidescape owners and dealers purely as a service to this community.

There wouldn’t be enough storage available for the format on discWondering if this new standard (cinematic) would eventually percolate down to physical media (discs)? Or is this proprietary?
Yeah that’s what I was thinking as well. Unless they go beyond Bd100/ triple layer. There wouldn’t be enough storage available for the format on disc
Nope, at least not at the maximum level. Assuming you have an 18Gbps Premium High Speed HDMI cable, you’re good for 4K CinematicIs the HDMI requirements for 4K cinematic any more than what regular Kaleidescape 4K needs (assuming for now that I don’t use 8k)? I don’t really want to deal with replacing my HDMI cable at this time.
Same. I have an NZ7, Lumagen, and Strato V. I have no plans to upgrade to the Artisan or Strato K but just out of curiosity wondering if I’d see any improvement with current gear.Something I remain unsure of: If (like me) you have a Strato V and a Lumagen Radiance Pro doing the Tone Mapping and video processing, it seems you will need to upgrade the Lumagen to the new Artisan model to take advantage of the 4:4:4 Chroma, since the Radiance Pro does not support 4:4:4 (it does 4:2:2). Am I understanding that right? If you just add the new Strato K then I dont think you can take advantage of the 4:4:4 with the Lumgaen Radiance Pro in the pipeline if its doing the processing and tone mapping. Im also unsure if the Radiance Pro can just pass through 4:4:4 without processing?
We are similar. I have a Barco Bragi CS Projector with a Lumagen Radiance Pro and a Strato V. The Lumagen and Barco do the heavy lifting. I am doubtful that adding a Strato K will offer anything more than a placebo improvement. But happy to be proven wrong. It does look like an upgrade to the Lumagen Artisan will be a must do though to fully take advantage of the 4:4:4 pipeline.Same. I have an NZ7, Lumagen, and Strato V. I must say I remain skeptical that for most 4K Cinema will be a very noticeable change but happy to be proven wrong. I do like the fact that’s it the first attempt at a more advanced format than UHD disc.
UI on the V will never be 4K, it is a chipset limit. Terra prices are likely only going up in the near future because of chip prices due to AI. This is a problem across the entire industry when it comes to anything like storage. If you want a Terra, now is the time to buy because prices are likely to only go up from here, not down. Miracles do happen, but do you want to bank on that? What's next Strato 4K Cinematic Plus THX? I just purchased my Strato V, a little over 6 months ago right before the prices increased. I'm so bummed out. How about more options on the mini terra servers for the masses. How about giving the UI in 4K for the Strato V?
Your existing equipment would benefit from this. You are starting from a better source regardless.Dumb question from an idiot - can my projector pass on the benefits from this (Barco Freya+) or does this need a projector upgrade? I am assuming my lumagen will need upgrading

This is true of course. The source sets the ultimate resolution for the system. The question is, how much better visually and subjectively in a real cinema room is 4K cinematic over 4K? The point above about Chroma changes and how hard they are to avoid is a really good one. I want to see pretty definitive improvements with Strato K over Strato V with a Lumagen Radiance Pro doing the processing before I will think about an upgrade. Otherwise, it becomes either an unnecessary upgrade or one that comes with upgrading other expensive components like the Lumagen to the Artisan.Your existing equipment would benefit from this. There is no "cinematic HDR format" it is just a higher chroma resolution and higher bitrate. That would stay the same, it would just be converting the DV signal to HDR10. This is not a new format, it is just an increase in bit rate and chroma resolution. Chroma has always been 420 in files but players convert it to 422 or 444 for output already. So this ultimately becomes, is having more resolution in the beginning visibly better than the chroma upscaling we had before. I imagine with test patterns it would be, but with moving video, who knows. We are not nearly as sensitive to chroma as we are to luma, which is why we have the compression in chroma we have already (that no one has complained about since the CUE bug back in the DVD days).not sure if this has been asked, but if i have a strato K player and and a projector, and i play a cinematic 4k DV format, When the Strato converts the Dolby vision to HDR, is it converting to the regular HDR format or a cinematic HDR format?
